Newbie GT4 Vs. 981 Spyder

I read the latest rumour is that the 718 GT4 will get a 4.0L version of the current 3.8L - no detuned GT3 motor and no X51 Power Kit 3.8.
Makes sense as it'll be cheap and keep the cost (and performance) of the car down.
Why wouldn't it just get the current 3.8L with a few more of the many trapped horses unleashed that would keep the costs even lower Makes sense as it'll be cheap and keep the cost (and performance) of the car down.

*if* the new GT4 comes with the 4.0 from the GT3 and also with a manual - that's potentially a better car than the Gen 1 GT3?
Can't see this happening. More likely a more tuned current block - personally don't think it will be much of an improvement over the current car.
Agreed. I now think it'll be a lightly tweaked version of the 981 GT4 IMHO, like a .1 to .2 gen change. Can't see this happening. More likely a more tuned current block - personally don't think it will be much of an improvement over the current car.

Yep, light tweek in power, new PCM system, uglier car. That's about it. Will be a more expensive car too, and probably produced in greater numbers. Not many areas the current GT4 can be improved upon imo

Always found it strange that Porsche did matching stitching on the arm rest on the Spyder but not GT4 and matching stitching on the GT4 steering wheel and gear lever gaitor but not on the Spyder.
Could it be because the Spyder is made in Stuttgart alongside the 911's and the GT4's are made at one of the newer plants with differing skill sets in the sewing department On the 718 GT4, a detuned GT3 engine is unlikely because even detuned, it will come too close to 911 performance imo.
Hate these 'strangled' and detuned engines for several reasons not least their abysmal fuel economy! The GT4 uses more fuel than the GT3. Not good.
Question is, will the 718 Spyder, if there is one, be na.

So a few piccies of the decals : I know they are Marmite - but I have a penchant for a sticker - the sticker the better - thanks once more to Rick at Highgate House for supplying and Tim for fitting

Nice pictures there Rich, and I couldn't help noticing your centre cap shields 'pointing' with quite unnerving accuracy to your tyre valves, but I'm not entirely sure this is actually correct
I was advised some time ago by someone in the know (I won't name & shame), that the shield was actually meant to point to the locking wheel nut, so it could be easily picked out in the dark if you had a puncture and had to change a wheel.
Now I agree it's quite a moot point these days esp on modern cars, since no one would actually be changing a wheel in the dark normally, but you do have an older car(s) to think about I believe ??
Anyway just thought I'd bring this to your attention

Hi there - long time no speak - hope that you are well ? I was advised some time ago by someone in the know (I won't name & shame), that the shield was actually meant to point to the locking wheel nut, so it could be easily picked out in the dark if you had a puncture and had to change a wheel.

Maybe I'm wrong but I thought the point of the shield to tyre valve was the way to go ? I'm sure someone in the know will put us right

Mine came from the factory as follows. Shield pointing to both locking nut and tyre valve on all 4 corners Anyway just thought I'd bring this to your attention

Likewise, I'm not bad thanks.Maybe I'm wrong but I thought the point of the shield to tyre valve was the way to go ? I'm sure someone in the know will put us right
To be honest I haven't even looked at how mine are, I maybe will now. I was also told the locking wheel nut stud used to have a dab of red paint on it from the factory, just to show where it was when balanced on the car from new. I did see this on my 968 but not sure if they do it these days.
Hoping for a bit of decent roof down weather when I get back to the UK in a couple of weeks !!

Just thought I’d update this thread for completeness : I preferred the Spyder and sold the GT4 - I always planned to only keep one of them.
Nothing much to conclude from this, other than I personally preferred the Spyder far more than the GT4 on the road - I could explain why, but at then end of the day, it’s just my personal view that some will share and others will disagre with and as such, I’ll let the fact that I choose to keep the Spyder do the talking
It really is the most special little car and I think everyone should experience one at some point
