If you mentally allow yourself to strip the substantial extensive camouflage and put nicer wheels and imagine it in white, it looks much more similar to the concept. You just need to allow your imagination run wild..!.I'm actually very excited about this car and willing to bet Porsche will price it very aggressively to reach their emissions target by 2022.

Hadn't really realised before but it's smaller than I thought....I saw something on a US website speculating it was going to be $90k which when you look at the size of it makes more sense as it's smaller than the Panamera.

Mule has traditional hinged rear passengers door instead of the ‘suidice’ rear hinged doors of the concept and as you have said the proportions have been majorly toned down. Side curves and flare are very pronounced on the concept..much flatter and Panemera on the mule.
Concept looked like a 4 seater sports coupe and had the appearance of delivering a Porsche sporting drive.I think that this is what people will have been excited by.

...and subsequently disappointed by.

They promised Charlize Theron and are delivering Rebel Wilson.

I think with camo stripped it will be pretty close, does look like the brought the bonnet up in line with the wings which takes away some of the drama but is more practical and probably real as I do not see how you could camouflage that.

The size looks very good, assuming no transmission tunnel interior space should be close to the panamera.

Key will be charging time I think, apparently they have a new charge at the new head office rumored to have twice the output of a Tesla SC but it is not turned on yet (and there is nothing to charge with it).

I would seriously think of it to replace my model x but I do not see a dog fitting in the trunk.

In which case I would LOVE someone to explain to me how that is "very close" to the concept.

If that is the case, I am "very close" in looks to Kate Beckinsale. We both have two arms and two legs and...erm...a face...

I see the vague similarity, but the car below is orders of magnitude better looking than that fat fking effort above.

Totally agree. Not even close to the concept as far as I am concerned.

Sure it will fit - just depends on how many pieces you want it in.

You won't be able to drive it in the UK anyway....we herdly generate enough electricity to keep the lights on in winter now, let alone when everyone has a 'leccy car.
Road tax? It will still be there....

Tax on electric for propulsion? I bet they are already planning it. I for one will be pissed if I have to pay even more for my lighting than I do now, what with solar and wind subsidies. Just build some nuclear stations and have done with it.....................

Or a hydrogen infrastructure and leapfrog this battery electric dead end completely.

Oh, and if that mule is the mission e it is as plug ugly as the mark one Panamera, and I never thought that we would see another dog from P so quickly....................

Production car toned down from headline grabbing concept car... Who'd have thought.

Goy my letter of intent in for this car but losing the suicide doors, if that is the case, would be a major issue for me.

I spoke to the dealer and they knew less than nothing yet.

Porsche, if you're reading this (lol), suicide doors pretty please!!!!

Back in 2005 I had an RX8 as my family car (seriously) and those rear-hinged back doors were what allowed us to do that. Putting toddlers and babies in car/booster seats was a breeze! You have much more space to go in to the space from a more 'front on' position without the door being in the place you want to stand for the right angle.

(Plus the boot took a pushchair and bags...very practical car!) biggrin

I can only assume that Elon is either banking on, or has developed some serious new battery tech for the roadster and Semi.

The Roadster has a 200kWh battery and most have surmised that it's two Model S 100kWh battery packs. If that was the case the batteries alone would weigh in at around 1200kg which is absurd as the car would end up well over 2 tonnes. And then we get onto the 620 mile range...

Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge Tesla advocate and am a yuuuge fan of Musk. But I think the Roadster is part fantasy, part smokescreen over the Model 3 issues and part reality.

But if there's one thing Elon does, it's deliver on his promises. Maybe not in anything like the promised timeframes (though he cleverly didn't give any for the Raodster), but it'll be made and will match or exceed the stats.

Yep. Musk is a king of marketing. He's instantly made everything else feel 10yrs old before it's even come out.

The Mission E may not be a direct rival for the Roadster, but it's not hard to put 2+2 together and think that the 200kWh battery in the next gen Model S will obliterate the 'new' Porsche.

How can mainstream companies compete with Tesla? In the rarefied world of these high performance cars, they really can't. The BMW i5 and Jag i-Pace will bring the premium EV feel and range etc to the £50k car market which Tesla doesn't occupy, but by then who knows what Tesla will have.

This is the world we live in now, tho - especially when we are talking electronics. and lets be honest, these cars a more closely aligned with that market than the traditional automotive one - where today's new tech is tomorrows old hat.

Because motor manufacturers have a much longer lead time to production than (say) a phone or computer, that leaves a lot longer for the technology to move on. And in Tesla's case, they seem to have more invested in the pure electronics side of things than Porsche who are still primarily a motor manufacturer.

There is nothing to say that A.N.Other manufacturer might not suddenly announce something even more outlandish (2000km range?) before the Roadster ever sees the light of day in production form.

To me, this is just another sign of 'cars as white goods'.

I don’t care about the 0-60 / top speed and the Mission E’s range sounds fine to me - I want a car that’s fun to drive and handles beautifully and if I had to punt on one of them to deliver in this category I’d back the Porsche over the Tesla smile

I agree. The numbers game with EVs getting a little silly and don't think Porsche really play this game. For me their products speak for themselves and rarely disappoint. It's all about the driving

I'd say absolute range is important but what is more important to me (and I guess directly correlated) is that the car will be able to do Autobahn driving without running out of juice after 100-200km.

This is the problem for the Mission E, can they generate this kind of excitement for the new car. Plus will the Porsche have "Plaid" mode. To those who don’t know what that is watch the Movie "Space Balls"

What is also very telling is how many people put down deposits for the Tesla Roadster on the night it was announced and the fact that they got to experience the rather silly 1.9 sec to 60 mph dash

And whilst I know that's only one car, it does look very 'production ready'.

But more than anything - that guys' CC limit is clearly higher than $250k since you had to pay in full for the Founders Edition. The jammy b'stard! biggrin
