Is it a silly comment? Porsche arent totally awash with cash like they were when they were buying VW shares. Its a huge loss of production that would hurt any manufacturer.

Nice holiday for the staff though!
If it's just the Stuttgart factory shutting down which builds predominantly 911 then with the 992 perhaps released at the Geneva motor show in March then sales of 991.2 would come to halt as customers await new model so perhaps not such a big loss in production as numbers always drop off in the year of release of a new model. Production ramped up of the 2019 MY 992 in September to make up for losses?

Good point !

More and more people are confirming this from their OPC so rumour is growing in creedence. I'm glad I bought when I did - car due to leave factory at the end of this month.

This is going to hurt the dealers cash flow somewhat. No new cars to sell

Salesman told me it was emissions based. He said there'd be some sort of particle filter going onto the petrols? I'm not mechanically minded enough to know if this is needed or feasible? I doubt if he is either?!
If it's true I'd prefer a car now without it.

Was in OPC today and they re confirmed that it is an immersions driven change that is causing this on ALL petrol models - shut down for 6 months on petrols post April ; used car prices will be very firm this year.

Shutting down for 6 months for some emission / particle filter change just does not sit right with me as it is something that is tested before committing to a new model and not a shut down!

My understanding is it’s to do with new emission targets (or maybe making sure they hit the old targets without cheating ??) Plus re tooling for Mission E / 992

Either way there is lots of chatter about it - sounds genuine to me - OPC’s are not happy as supply will dry up .

I dunno if it'll make that much difference to prices- alot of buyers will hold off for a 992 anyway? I'm considering a T, rare as it'll be, when the 992 glitz arrives it won't make much difference.

If it is affecting 911 production then where will the GT3RS get built, apparently due for release at the Geneva motorshow in March. If they are switching the plant to 992 production then I cannot see them making a 991.2 GT3RS as they are releasing 992.

I would imagine production will start in October - that would work with a March Launch smile

Yep. Have been told that my .2RS will be spec’d March, with a November delivery.

EU regs. After brexit they should move production to the UK. More profitable for them... paperbag

So in order to follow my instruction you're backing away from "financial suicide"?

Don't be silly
Not at all, buying VW shares in a takeover attempt was nearly financial suicide though.

They can say that they have reduced the factory emissions by 50%.
This is what I was told today by OPC. Factory will continue production but no cars for EU so they can say they have met the quotas for emissions. The only people who will suffer are the guys and girls who are still expected to hit targets to get their commission.

I placed an order for new model base Cayenne V6 in early Jan at Bristol OPC with a theoretical build slot of May. The dealer called yesterday to explain the factory shutdown from April until September and said that there are no build slots for base V6 model until November. He offered me a build slot for Cayenne S in April and offered to contribute 1K as a gesture.

I am tempted to wait until the end of the year, as I don't really need the S model. It seems a lot of extra cash for an extra second off the 0-60 time. My only concern is that the current pricing is very favourable in Sterling and that Porsche UK may well have to put up prices before my order comes through. Any thoughts on this...am I being paranoid?

I can see why they would give build slots on base model to other, more profitable, markets...
