I can't believe it!
CLR has been approved by the Rheinland Federal TUV Approval board. I have just been contacted with this news that my CLR prototype 996 has been accepted and certified. I really can't get over what this means. Right now I can only say it feels like I have just had a car accident that I should have died in and I have walked away without a scratch. I'm physically shaking!

To get your own technical designs approved in Germany is not something I ever thought would happen, especially so with no formal background in vehicle design. The last few years have been battles everyday; not just the technical side but family, financial, time and all the other things associated with a project of this nature. To think that the design drawings I've been doing on the dining room table at 02:00hrs in the morning for system designs that had perhaps failed 4 times previously or lying on the garage floor in -10.C battling ideas that seemed impossible... It just seems surreal that the moment has come. I'm off for a stiff one or six!*

1086kg 911, purity at it's core!

  • My apologies if you have read this elsewhere. In my defence, I am a little excited wink

Congrats Richie, bloody well done! clap

I'm over at the back end of May, so might be able to meet for a catch up. It'd be nice if I've got the CR by then. Still looking though...

Congratulations Rich, you thoroughly deserve it after all the blood sweat and tears over the last 2-3 years. It’s a real feather in your cap.
Will hopefully get over to see you and the car at some point later on this year smile

Will PM you in the next few days.

I do not accept 'hopefully' Henry; you have no choice in the matter wink By the time you get here, I may also have a 997CLR complete wink

I think it would just about be possible but my design brief would be blown out the window. Critical factors include it being a nice place to be. Taking out remaining trim, rear seats and dash would yield around another 45-50kg, custom made 299 & 318mm CC discs another 15kg or so (but seriously cost prohibitive). Pax seat another 11.3kg. Getting the last 15kg would be seriously difficult and I'm not even sure if possible and certainly not with TUV approval, as even the dash stripped out would be a non-starter. Many thought getting 100kg out would be some going when I first starting this project. I'm now over 250kg to the good, which I'm more than happy with. I'm sure I'll think of a few more ideas over the coming months years, but for now, getting the TUV Approval was a pinnacle moment.

CLR, I read about your car/venture in 911&PW a while back. Would you post a link with the detail of what it's all about?

Congrats BTW. bow

I was of course joking hehe

To (safely) take 250kgs out of an already comparatively light car is a stunning achievement. That's the weight of a small skip!

I've followed your thread on 911uk with great interest, also read the piece in the magazine that came out not too long ago (forgot the name of it).

I wish to extend many congratulations on your achievement. Well done! smile I forgot if it has been mentioned, but I gather you are meant to open up some sort of business with this, selling your redesigned lightweight parts and perhaps also offer fitting of some of the more complicated bits like the roof?

Regards

Just had a play with some figures - forgive me if I'm wrong Richie! Unmodified power figures used for yours as I'm not sure of your numbers after the minor engine mods.

Figures from google and rounded for simplicity.

Standard 996 C2 '98: 221bhp per ton

Standard 996 GT3: 261bhp per ton

996 CLR: 272bhp per ton

Seriously impressive stuff!!! bow

Also bear in mind Jim mine will be around 335BHP now so it should be around 300bhp per ton wink
