Hi,

My two month old (leased) S3 had a vibration caused by the fake sound generator in the engine bay.

There seems to have been a number of people with this problem over the years and it happens on the Golf R too.

I'm looking for some advice on the following....

The dealer has fixed the issue by insulating the device and adding various bits of foam, as per an Audi technical document. This has 95% fixed the issue which is probably acceptable to a certain extent.

However, the car is now noticeably quieter. I know the noise was previously fake, but I liked it and it added to the 'sporty' experience. It is now like the car is permanently in the comfort sound setting and very boring. The car is a manual and previously there was a nice blurp of sound on rev matched down changes.... now nothing.

Is this tough luck and I now have a boring sounding car? Or is there something I can do about this, maybe even reject the lease car?

It has upset me quite a lot to be fair, as the car is not how it was when new and not like the one I test drove.

Thanks for any help

Fred

p.s. I originally posted this in the general section. If a mod could please delete that duplicate, that would be great.

Yes, I am upset as the car is costing me a lot of money. I have never had a new car before and this is something I have worked hard to get.

I understand why you're upset but why are you wanting to reject it? Surely go back to the garage and ask them to fix it?

I don't know how it works but it sounds to me like they might have inadvertently disconnected it while trying to rectify the rattle.

Can you make 'brum brum' noises whilst driving?

Do you know anyone with access to VCDS? You can tweak the sound level easily if you do. I've changed a Golf GTI and Golf R to a level more suited to the owners

Don't know about the OP's car but my S4 had the soundaktor set to 100% as the default setting, so no tweaking upwards available.

I turned mine down to 0% as I don't like the fake noise but if you don't have access to VCDS you can just remove the fuse.

I reckon as part of the warranty fix they have turned it down or off, op probably just needs to turn it back up.

This thread is a sad indictment of the times we live in. 2 litre piece of st engine, buy a V8 and rev it outside the dealership - to learn 'em.

This reminds me of when I was a child, we used to put stiff card in the spokes of our bikes.
