Cayenne reliability versus Range Rover/Range Sport

I've had Discos and Range Rovers form many years. The latest RR (Vogue SE) has had many niggles and has actually needed recovery 3 times in the last 2 1/2 years. It has got to point where I've lost confidence in it's reliability and just don't trust it, especially for longer journeys. I use it off road in the winter for shooting and it is very good. Having said that I've had enough of the unreliability, compromised the off road ability and bought a Cayenne Diesel S which is miles better on road and I'm sure will cope with the odd shoot day (I will I fear have the utmost rip taken out of me by the other guns).
I used a Macan off road at a shoot and it was the only vehicle other than Defenders with MTs that didn't get stuck. The Cayanne is even better off road it just needs the right tyres..
As you posted this in a Porsche forum the likeliness is that the consensus will tip more towards the Cayenne.
I have had both - a 2011 Cayenne SD which was a footballers car so had options in the tune of something like £35k! I have also had a RRS AB - they are different cars. The Cayenne is a much sportier drive and the RRS is a comfortable cruiser which drives fairly decently in dynamic mode.
Never had any issues with my RRS apart from squeeky brakes which had been replaced twice under warranty only for the sound to return after a few hundred miles. As for the Cayenne I had numerous software issues with the infotainment and air suspension.
I wanted to buy the new Cayenne Hybrid but it's way to similar to the previous gen model in the looks department so went for a RRS AB 2018 as they made some substantial and really nice updates to both the exterior and interior.

I agree with the above, but I (as probably many people will have on this particular forum), current experience of both manufacturers and (my) experience with LR/RR has been shockingI have had both - a 2011 Cayenne SD which was a footballers car so had options in the tune of something like £35k! Have a 2016 TDV6 Vogue from new with 32k miles...no issues, they are not all bad. I think electrics is the biggest concern in any modern car, run with warranty and buy the car you enjoy the most
They certainly can’t all be bad, but I hope you touched wood after saying that A warranty can mitigate the financial impact but not the inconvenience. If it fails to get you to work several times and leaves you stranded, I don’t think the warranty will offer enough comfort :/
Have had an L322 TDV8 for 3 years. Reliability has been pretty awful. LR service is appalling: they've simply outgrown their network.
It's now with a specialist, which improves things a lot, and I do a few jobs myself. Was out on the drive repairing the wiring to the dampers on Sunday!
My summary... Awesome product, when it works, rubbish service.

2015 RR sport owner here, 30,000 miles & no big issues at all.
Only thing to report is a rattling exhaust heat shield easy fixed, great car wouldn’t be without it.
When my old Boxster GTS went in for a service in March they lent me a 2018 Cayenne, I was amazed that despite being three years newer other than the handling of the car where it was better than the RR it was poor in terms of engine performance & especially the gearbox being very rough by comparison to the proper ZF auto. All in all very surprising & disappointing from Porsche.

I dont think the MK 3 was on the road in March and even if it was I doubt Porsche are handing them out as courtesy cars. So that would have been the MK2 facelift which was actually launched ~2015 as well. So whilst a 2018 car, in terms of design/features it was also 3 years old.Only thing to report is a rattling exhaust heat shield easy fixed, great car wouldn’t be without it.

I'm coming out of an 8 speed ZF in my Gran coupe and Cayennes appears to be just as good. Is the new one still using the AISIN or has it switched to ZF now?
We’ve run 3 2015 Cayenne hybrids as company cars for the last years. None missed a beat until they got to around 45,000 miles and 32 months old and then have had a host of engine problems (nothing related to the hybrid system). Bad enough to make us order RR Hybrids this time around which might be a terrible decision (time will tell) but been very disappointed with the VW/Audi group V6 - not a good unit it would seem from our experience
