Someone has posted somewhere on PH in the last few days (maybe in 'Speed Plod and the Law' thread) that they were caught on a' damp' road at 130KPH and fined
Thanks. To be fined whilst on a "damp" road (so I presume not even raining) is particularly depressing!
I'm driving to Italy end of July. I wasn't going to take the autoroute because the tolls are so expensive, thus making it a real driving adventure. However as they are now dropping minor roads to 80KPH from the 1st of July, and employing an extra 500 speed traps/camera vans …… I'm taking the autoroute. Such a bloody shame, not so much that I want to break the speed limit, just that I'd be in a constant panic that I may have inadvertently gone over it on those empty lovely French road and got caught. The last thing I'd want is to be constant speedo watching.

Just wish my old 911 had cruise...….. In fact I'm seriously considering flying to Pisa and missing out France and indeed the whole road trip adventure. I'd lose my hotel in Dijon there and back, but hey ho.

I think your worrying too much. I've done 2 trips through France this year so far. One to Corsica via France and Italy, the other to Corsica just through France. Took the AutoRoute for the first half through France - no sign of police. Mostly 130 - 150 kph. Took the back roads the second day and really enjoyed the winding traffic / pothole free roads. No sign of cameras or police. Just lots of amazing hairpins and sweeping bends. You don't actually have to be going that fast to enjoy the twisty roads. Just pick a twisty route. All the really enjoyable mountain type roads were in 2nd / 3rd gear.
