Point is though, any additional few hundred RPM above 7,000 ish will change the sound a fair bit. The extra 500 RPM from 997.1 to 991.1 GT3 is noticeable.

For sure, I mean even at idle, a Mezger is noisier (and makes more different types of noises) than an M96/7, but the pitch (and usually) volume build with RPM and it's not necessarily a linear relationship.

Is most noise at higher rpm not due to intake and exhaust design, rather than from mechanical noise from within the block, i.e valvetrain, etc?

Mine made alleged 403hp at 8250rpm on the VGS Maha Dyno with the appropriate air feed etc. VGS does the mapping for Manthey’s kit. Red line is 8400rpm

I think it probably more accurate to say Ansgar Wiesen did Manthey's mapping (probably as a freelancer at VGS) and almost certainly would have done back in '99-2000, before he went on to take over VGS.

The Mez will rev a lot higher in all forms. Porsche just cammed it to rev lower and incrementally increased it through the models. They are all good for over 9000 rpm.

One thing I've always noticed is that flat-plane crank V8 Ferraris often suffer on noise tests. Higher-pitched noises seem to travel more in air.

O/T An abiding memory of mine was driving in convoy down to Le Mans (2002 or 3 IIRC) in my then (de-silenced) Griffith 500 and going into a tunnel on the autoroute at 100 ish with an F355 and a TVR Tuscan Speed Six following. You could hear each individual engine noise. Superb.

All you needed was a tuned rover k series 4 pot, a lambo V10 and a ferrari V12 and you could have had a mobile orchestra.

hehe

Last DN trip was quite good too; dropping into a tunnel near Rotterdam in the GT3, with my mate's R8 GT V10 following.

Hi,

Anyone know either of these?

(Are the seats a no no?)

Is there a ‘must have’ spec for a GT4?

Don’t know either but the dark blue doesn’t appear to have nav or leather dash or dual zone climate. The seats are the folding buckets which are different to the 918 fixed buckets. Some prefer one, some the other. They’re not the comfort heated seats which are ok but more suited to an everyday car.

The sapphire has nav, leather dash, dual zone climate and the 918 buckets. Apart from the dealer claiming the 2 year service is free this is the one I would choose. Either way, a great car.

'must have' is what you must have in my opinion. If you buy one for later re-sale it usually means you pay more for it in the first place.

First one is one of the cheapest I've seen for sale. Redline are not usually a 'cheap car seller' which makes me wonder about this one. Bugdet another £1000 to change the awful Dunlop tyres to Cup 2s.

Now thinking about this again and this is a really horrid question...

I don't like buying porsches that are still in depreciation mode (I'm too tight-fisted). Not worried about investment and will it go up but are 997 GT3s still depreciating do we think? What about something like this? https://www.simonsofshropshire.co.uk/used-porsche-...

Cheers

I would think dealer margin counts as depreciation so yes, you're guaranteed to lose £5-10k between buying the car from a dealer today and selling it tomorrow. But beyond that I should think there will be a dip with the Brexit debacle and then recovery/stability if the UK returns to its senses...

Thanks. Yes, I'm very accepting of market conditions and the bid/offer spread of buying from a dealer. But (for example) an £80k car that will depreciate to 40k in a couple of years isn't what I want. Clearly the 6GT3 is ok in that regard (as much as anyone can predict the future). I've decided I need to check 996 and 997 out to see which I prefer.
