I would think dealer margin counts as depreciation so yes, you're guaranteed to lose £5-10k between buying the car from a dealer today and selling it tomorrow. But beyond that I should think there will be a dip with the Brexit debacle and then recovery/stability if the UK returns to its senses...
Thanks. Yes, I'm very accepting of market conditions and the bid/offer spread of buying from a dealer. But (for example) an £80k car that will depreciate to 40k in a couple of years isn't what I want. Clearly the 6GT3 is ok in that regard (as much as anyone can predict the future). I've decided I need to check 996 and 997 out to see which I prefer.

That car, at that price from a non-specialist dealer seems reasonable. For comparison, a slightly lover miles Club Sport from JZM would be about £10k more, but you get the 'reassurance' and warranty of buying from a known entity. You'd want to PPI the thing for sure.

I don't think so. A quick look on the OPC locator shows cars priced at £80k - £90k and they were built up to Spring 2016.

OPC wolves had a 997.1 GT3 (non Club Sport) in a few weeks back for just under £90k, but surely a 2016 is a .2 and will be more?

Short of an economic armageddon I would be amazed if these cars went back to say £40k. I think all these 996/997 GT3s will do down as being amongst the very finest sporting cars ever made. GT4 similarly, but to a lesser extent.

For future generations interested in driving fun, cars of the last 20 years are an awful lot easier to live with (and have much greater performance) than the decades before that. That will make them more tempting for people who will be accustomed to Teslas et al to try a 'classic'. With every year that passes as we hurtle towards electric and autonomous cars, the more that the GT3s' talents will shine.

Up until driving internal combustion cars on the road becomes an excess of hassle (no fuel stations), expense or legality. Hopefully we're still 30-40 years away from that.

All IMO. biggrin

Most have started with an 8 for a long time now. The current average for the dozen or so for sale at OPCs at the moment was about £84K the last time I looked. So starting with an 8 for the spec above is by no means toppy IMO. I'd get it bought quick if I were you because over the period I've watched the prices they've been creeping up rather than down. As a new owner I'm very pleased I got in mine when I did and couldn't be more pleased with it. Every time I drive it, it's a treat. This guy thinks so too:

FWIW OPC Wolves had no less than three GT4s in last autumn and, even then, they were all around the 8 level IIRC.
