Just wondering if anyone here has links to a Porsche parts department. My closest dealer is 100 miles away and they say I have to bring the car to them to get they key coded. With my Bmw it was coded and I just collected it ready to go.

Wondering if they are just talking bs or if there is an actual reason I need to go in. They obviously arent going to manage to upsell me a new car while there.

Car is a 2000 boxster s, can email v5 copy as proof etc. Just dont fancy the 2 hour drive to collect a key.

I had to do the same with a Mercedes. They said they needed the car hooked up to their system and then the new key was coded to it. Porsche probably the same unfortunately.

I needed a spare key for my 996 recently (I was going abroad and wanted a spare) and used a mobile operator to provide a replacement though they did have to code the key to the car and check it worked fully. It took about 15 minutes to cut/code and he used a Porsche supplied key/blade. I paid about £300 for my replacement whereas the OPC wanted nearly £400 and wanted me to visit with my V5/ID to order and then go back again once the key arrived for the coding(say 2.5 hrs In total fir both trips). I'd see if there is anyone reasonably local to you whose mobile?

I got mine through a local indy (Cheshire sports & classics). Was less than £300 all up.
I had to take the original and proof of ownership. The guy photographed the original key. 2 weeks later they called to say it had arrived, I dropped by with the car. 10 minutes to code the new key. job done.

Thanks for the replies, price isnt really the issue as they quoted me only £220 for key + coding. Guess its one of those things where it does have to be plugged in.

Had both keys innards replaced last year on my 996, had to get them coded to the car. You can't do it by post.

They are right, the key and car will both be needed to code it,.
