Same here.
Goes back to my childhood and teenage years, when my Dad had to have a boring estate for his work purposes, and all the Dad's of my mates had cool saloon cars, or sports saloons. The estate stigma has stayed with me for the next 40 years rofl

4x4 SUV's are acceptable, as they bring an extra dimension of usefulness to the game of ground clearance and higher driving position/easy of entry in my old age.
Glad i'm not the only one smile

My neighbour has a Lexus RX. I love the way it looks. Very Lambo-esque with the geometric design aesthetic. Its not a very engaging drive though :/
I have to agree I like the look of the RX and test drove one earlier this year, great ride quality but I felt 10 years older driving it..............maybe look at one in a few years.smile

Wife bought a BMW X1 2.0d xDrive new in 2016. £35k.
0-60 in 7 seconds.
42mpg long-term average. Mostly short journeys.
4 seats. Our sons fit in the back at 6' 4" and 6' 5".
Don't be put off by part time 4WD - last winter it was passing with ease all the snow stranded 2WD cars - superb on summer tyres.
Sports seats really comfy and great for cruising.
Previously we've had Lexus RX; Honda CRV; BMW 5 Touring. X1 is the best so far.
We thought about a Macan, but £20k more for little benefit (other than the badge). Wife's brother has Macan S.
Other car is a 981 Cayman.
Downside - don't expect Cayman handling!
Sounds like your loving your X1 & in many ways your describing exactly what I'm looking for, but I am becoming more prejudice towards oil burners & although I far from wish to sound blasé about £20k (because I cant) but the extra to have a Macan does seam worth it, far more than just a badge. I did similar a few years back when I bought a CLS when I really wanted a Panamera, at the time it felt like I was saving money, but in reality I lost thousands because I ended up trading the CLS & never really loving it in the time I had it. If I'd bought the Pana I suspect I'd still have it!
My fear is I'll do the same now by looking for a cheaper alternative to a Macan. OOOHHHH lots to think about.

Or you'll regress and get a totally impractical Aventador (or similar) biggrin

Is the 2 litre the engine from the golf R?

If so any you think they’re not powerful enough get it mapped they can easily run upto 500bhp without having to open the engine up! Or a map will net around 400hp

A mate has just gone from an X6M to a 2.0 diesel Evoque. Wanted something smaller and more frugal. 17mpg. A strange choice IMO
Assuming the X6M had the 17MPG you speak of not the new Evoque
We have the old 2.2D Evoque before the Ingenium engines that are about 5-10mpg more efficient & mine is remapped too for more power
I just got in from driving from north east london to Surrey in vile traffic, 4 up, took 2 hours with an average speed of 14MPH and still got 26MPG
It has also got a beautiful interior and I have found it to be very good off road as it is light

Not sure why some on here criticize the 2lt car, I'm collecting my Gen 2 base model soon to replace my base Macan.

I use mine on narrow and normal rural roads most of the time and it's just great with plenty of low down speed up to 70mph driving
For me it’s actually not about the outright performance, I just think they seem poor value for the performance on offer when the larger engines are not a great deal more expensive.
Agreed. We've just picked up a new 2.0l and love it. We've got a fast driver's car for fun and the Macan is for everyday use. Within the budget of £55-£60k my wife wanted a fully loaded base model over a faster model with no tricks. She'll be clocking up 50 miles per day, mainly in town and short bursts of M25 & dual carriage ways. It's a beautifully put together car which we favoured over the F Pace, Evoque and Q5. Handling and pace is more than good enough for our use.

I am really impressed with my BMW X3 3.0D M-Sport.

Handles very well and good fun to drive (for an SUV). 32mpg average (if not in sport mode)

Well built and a nice place to be in.

Tows very well. A great all rounder.
