Details about development of AM V12 engine
Discussion
Hi guys,
I’d love to know if anyone has come across a good website giving the story behind the background, design and development of the AM V12 engine.
I’ve had a good Google search but can’t find any of the real in-depth background - ie allegedly being fundamentally 2 Ford 3.0 V6s mated together etc!
I’d love to know a little more - and yes, I should buy the “Bible” but I’m trying to find a printed copy that won’t break the bank alongside funding my DB9’s issues...!
Thanks a lot,
Matt

From memory, there was a good article on it in a recent AMOC "magazine". I'm travelling at present, so can't search for it, but IIRC, it described how it came about through the Ford Indogo concept car of the mid-90's:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Indigo
There is a basis of its origin being in V6 blocks, but by the time it finished production, you may as well call it an extremely distance relation.

Great video! Never previously heard about Porsche's involvement in the original V6 Duratec engine.Component origins have never really bothered me (previous V8 with its links to Ford and Jaguar, current V8 from AMG, etc.). It's the end result that matters and no engine under a modern AM has ever been lacking character or deliver!

Look online for an Institute of mechanical engineers presentation about the 5935 V12.
If you cannot find it, DM me and I'll dig out copy and send it over to you...
Sorry, but I think that presentation is on a hard drive I cannot access at the moment. I will search some more. If you cannot find it, DM me and I'll dig out copy and send it over to you...

Wait for ASTON 21 from the Aston Martin Heritage Trust. Full story from US Ford engineer who worked on it. I’d love to know if anyone has come across a good website giving the story behind the background, design and development of the AM V12 engine.
