Steve is a brilliant driver, it's not entirely fair to compare him to most people to be honest. I was his passenger when he did a 2:41 in his (supposedly much slower than the vaunted .2gt3) .1rs and he caught some traffic at B2.
He did say he went faster in a friends .2 :-) and was hoping to get one in RS form. But pretty much one of the fastest guys doing you tube vids, I did not think a 1.14 was possible at Donny and that's with the curb !
as an example a very fast 1.15.8 which now seems slow !! and with a cut. but turns in too early for most bends, which most do at Donny easy mistake.
Steve uses the same lines as me which is not the instructor line or the dark racing line ! 1.14 is very impressive, when I set my sites on a 1.18 lol
If some one said to me 1.14 I would have called rubbish, but he is a very fast driver.
would very much like to meet the guy and go out in his car.
the 1.15,8 lap, still a fast lap by all accounts. but too early turn into Redgate and Mcleans and then the big cut onto the pit straight.

I wonder about this too, I'd love the shove of the extra power in the GT2 RS, but at the same time the noise of the 3 is just unbeatablle....
Here's mine doing a 1:15 at the hands of my buddy Chris at donny back in March, on PS4 tyres (fronts PS4S, rears PS4, allowed it to be usable over winter!).....and with fatty me in the passenger seat:

Yes when watching the Pros , it emphasises the balance and potential of the 3 RS , as even I feel when pushing harder and using a lot of kerb the car becomes "looser" needing more steering correction mid corner but never is uncontrolled . That is what is nice you can go faster but still feel very secure , maybe it is the aids like RWS . Yes the 2 RS has 200 bhp more , but then possibly a slightly more rearward weight bias .

They have got it right for the 3RS, some of the pro's I have talked to don't like RWS and I am not a fan as it makes the car unpredictable out the slower bends a little I find even on the road, the couple of pro's I talked to say on the limit they would rather fixed rear wheels.Solid bushing also helps on the 3rs in the areas needed to stop it moving about. some thing I have half done to my normal GT3 but have decided to keep it and mononball it all now.
the Kevin E ring lap for a 500BHP NA car is still amazing to watch a 6.56 ,, it's brutal. the steering corrections are so fast. and has no issues with RWS :-)
but the corrections are cat like fast.
https://youtu.be/65jW-FVAd2o
as always for the normal guys finding the last 2 to 3 second a lap on normal track days is where the skill comes in and the confidence needed in the car you own driving towards 95 and 100% of the car.
Hence Steve Ross times are bloody fast vs the normal track dayers or fun drivers, most are 10 seconds off the lap even on a small track like Donnington.
even the faster guys are 4 or 5 seconds off Steves time ! and the fun drivers 10+ seconds off the pace.
I follow .\\ on you tube again of the fastest drivers on the tube and his passion for ring lapping is worth watching.
he just gets faster and faster in his RS
https://youtu.be/tsAFqztuuSo
Again the 2RS from the instructors I have talked to say the balance is not as nice as the 3RS.
I still think PDK takes 70% of the skill away from the driver though, so lapping a PDK for me don't look or seem fun unless you are just after faster times to post on the net.
the skill in lapping is under the brakes while changing gear, driving fast is not that hard in most areas of the track, it's all about corner entry, and MrJWW hit the nail on the head in his vid, he could not brake in his manual GT3 but could in the GT3RS. Bingo !!!
you see very few Manual laps in GT3's which is a real shame.
but here is a pro in the auto and the same guy in the manual.
same lap time but the work in the manual is the real deal, hence I like what he said about PDk a the end.
"I hate PDK, it makes every one able to drive like me"
again Bingo !!!! so while these ultra fast laps are impressive they are still in Automatics !!!!
Manual
https://youtu.be/DMlXuKHV7Cs
PDk
https://youtu.be/8h2SYaRuUHA
watch at 2.00 minutes, !!!!!
If you want to drive a car buy a manual :-) . If you want to post fast laps on Youtube in an Auto you better make sure it's eye watering fast ;-)

It is, about 3-4% more rearward than the 3rs which is 40/60. Footsoldier here iirc has commented that plus the extra power does make the 2rs rather less easy to drive vs the 3 on track and not simply a 3rs with more power.isaldiri said:

Whilst I don't know Steve I know of lot of similar guys who have been doing trackdays for 20+ years in all manner of Porsche, have learnt the art via practice and some good pointers and tuition along the way. If you could get that group on a day with just them would be interesting.
The day at ZV was overtake left, right, in the corners anywhere, only incident was an RS3 saloon that suffered an exploded rotor and ended up on upside down in the gravel!
Here's a good one, couple of 996GT3's on slicks going well:

Nice driving, and probably up there with the higher track day warriors. I was at Zandvoort over the weekend with an NL group (some brits) an compared to those in the UK who allude to being good behind the wheel (911R for example despite the fact he's discovered humility it seems on this thread at last) there were a number of very capable people out there like Steve who don't feel the need to flood the forums with post's telling people they know the proverbial inside of a cat's backside about driving.

Think Steve (rosco) was there in some kind of Ferrari at ZV? But yep there are a few in that group who are very good drivers (like you ) that would never proclaim driving quick on track is very simple other than corner entry in a car whatever the gearbox unlike some here on ph...Whilst I don't know Steve I know of lot of similar guys who have been doing trackdays for 20+ years in all manner of Porsche, have learnt the art via practice and some good pointers and tuition along the way. We had a great day weather was fab, even got a bit of a tan! Exceptional driving even though a vast chasm of ability from racers in 991 cup to guys on their first day, everyone had a fantastic time, shame you couldn't make it as we discussed.
I didn't hear any of the pro's complaining about RWS on their 991 RS automatics.
Haha JC ...... ZV is a great circuit , the old one was even better , is the bar above the garages still there was called "MIckies " ... also the proximity to Amsterdam was always dangerous .
Many years ago did a race on the old circuit and ... yes big night in the bad town ... so ended up sleeping in the car , so had a shower at the circuit ........ walked into a big communal shower with so much steam you could not see , after a few minutes some left and the steam left as well ..... it was a multi-sex shared shower , trust the Dutch.
Zolder also fun track , another get together needed ....
