Having now played with the car I can confirm a) if the car is locked and then unlocked, it will self lock in around a minute and b) that it does not self-lock after leaving the car (I guess that prevent getting locked out with your keys within). It a GTS with fixed mirrors.

Conclusion I'm an idiot and must have either hit the wrong button of not hit any buttons!!
It happens, one of those things! What surprised us is that scrotes will take anything, even a few quid in change! They must be up and down roads checking doors religiously to find them.

A couple of points that may not be relevant....

1) my cayenne has the mirrors that only fold when you hold down the lock button. They unfold when the engine is started.

2) I had a car "broken" into a few years ago. I used to park it on the street outside my apartment. I also kept the key in my pocket. I discovered when I sat down I was unlocking the car. At which point, the head lights would come on and be a beacon to thieving scum. This was on a car where the unlock button was raised instead of the lock one.

But enough to make you wonder/look where the sound has come from. If you hear a chirp walking acoss a car park you tend to look?

The button on the remote is a toggle so pressing the button and then unintentionally pressing again will lock the car and then unlock it.

Not the best setup in my book.
