A few years ago I did the GT day at Silverstone PEC. Drove a 997.2 GT2, 997.2 GT2 RS and 997.2 GT3 RS back to back. We were supposed to drive the RS 4.0 but it was back in Germany for some remedial work. Experiences etched in the memory.
Anyway, the GT2 was lively enough and then I got in the GT2 RS, which was frankly intimidating, noting that we're only talking here about the handling circuit at PEC! I think as a drivers' car the 2RS would challenge even the very best of drivers. Probably why Mark Webber was a fan! I've driven some fairly fast stuff over the years including plenty on track and I'm generally ok with a car steering from the rear but that said I'm not sure one could ever fully settle with the GT2, particularly the 2RS. It's "seat of the pants" exciting but the way the turbos spool up you need to be on your guard at all times. Basically I adopted the "make sure the front wheels are pointing in a forwards direction before properly booting it" approach, which was fun for a while but a question mark over the long term attraction. Now you might just put this own to me being a pussy (fair enough) but one thing I would say is that it does not feel like a GT3 with a Turbo! It defo deserves its widowmaker tag.
Only one way to find out....

I've DDed 997GT2 for many years, up to 60K miles now, mine's fully rose jointed, bit more power than the 2RS...... with the nannies they have I'm not sure how you could call them intimidating, they are nice and lively and move around plenty especially at the back but are fantastically capable and fun cars to drive and always feel controlled and safe.
I bought a 991.2 turbo S new a few years ago and it lasted 750 miles.....talk about boring, felt like an Audi RS.
I guess it is all down to personal perception - you give the correct advice at the end
The thought of dailying a GT2 - fair play, not a lot more I can say!
I daily a 991 Turbo so you've got even more ammo now
There is an awesome build vlog on YouTube of a guy who converted a 997 Turbo to more or less full 997 GT2 RS replica spec. Well worth a watch for anyone you hasn't see it. Shows all the little RS detailed bits and I fully admired his attention to detail. Search "eSysman"
I’ve been toying with the idea of a 964 RS...mate of mine who has owned a lot of Porsche’s back catalogue including cars that are serious money these days was trying to talk me into a GT2 instead. Reckons they’re fantastic cars/last of their kind etc but they just do nothing for me ! It’s quite odd when you think about how successful Porsche was with turbocharged competition cars and how the Porsche Turbo has been the top of the tree since 1975 but for me if it’s a Porsche it’s got to be naturally aspirated.

been eyeing these up myself.
what's the catch ?, they seem cheap, £300k less than the RS one
......
Leeds have a 9k mile one in atm, why do these not sell ?
They dont sell as they are overpriced (yes i am talking down prices as id love to own one), the lovely red one for sale made 90k at a past Collecting Cars (if its the same car) yet is up for 140(?) and hasnt sold. Whenever ive looked at the classifieds, it seems to be the same cars FS and not sold.what's the catch ?, they seem cheap, £300k less than the RS one

Also 140k gets you some equally tasty machinery from other marquees as well

quite correct it is the same car imported from Malaysia and auctioned. Also 140k gets you some equally tasty machinery from other marquees as well
I owned one for a short time ..
2009 GT2 CS ... the 2009 model had the latest PSM and maybe 20 RHD cars.
It had the GT3RS suspension but was very low so mine had an after market front axle lift.
I also drove the best of the 997's at the PEC ... 3.6RS ..3.8RS .. 4.0RS and GT2RS .. the GT2RS was amazing and could be steered on the throttle at quite low speeds which was fun ... and almost no turbo lag.
But ultimately the GT3's were much more visceral ...
Of course the 997GT2 is based on the Mezger engine where the 991 was not ...

I had one and semi-daily drove it for 4 months (to the day) December To April 2015 - even drove it from Salzburg to Edinburgh, some of it in the pouring rain. I loved the car, but then my luck ran out on a cold April day - previously when the rear stepped out I was fast enough, not this time though unfortunately (I posted a pic of the car in the past). I would call them perfectly fine as a daily, but on the Cup 1 tyres they definitely demand respect when it is not warm and sunny imo. Clubsport saved my life, so that’s a must have option imo.
I stayed away from Porsche until this year and now back in a 997 RS, not GT2 for now though - although I am still tempted to get one again at some point.

Theres also a private grey in the classifieds for a shade under 100k now (might have been there for some time, i dont know)

thanks for input ive not by design had the rear stepping out by any degree except when i hit black ice and instinctive reactions and a bucket full off luck saved me. thats a 996gt2 communication is great through the arse but not so much on the steering. On black ice i was going uphill at around 40mph entering a shallow bend and when the car went throwing full corrective lock on B Road spun 90 then 180 the other way all the time throwing in hard corrective lock until she came off the ICE and fortunately i was pointing in the right direction. I push the rear out on my Griff but wary on the Porsche it drives quick enough on Public roads slow in fast out to enjoy. Need to track the car to drive at anywhere near 90-100%. 997 with nannies seems like a good balance between extreme analogue and self drive digi GT,s now out there.I stayed away from Porsche until this year and now back in a 997 RS, not GT2 for now though - although I am still tempted to get one again at some point.
