Potential next purchase...

In a right pickle, have the option to trade in my current 987.2 Cayman S and look to upgrade and get a new car. Looking at other marquees and absolutely nothing appeals so will be staying in with Stuttgart Special.
Quick background, had the Cayman for a year and a half, absolutely smitten with it, I have taken it to Europe, to Wales and I am generally in love and don't actually want to get rid in all honesty.
That being said, I have the option to upgrade so in my opinion, you should always take it; did start looking at 1M Coupe, R8 Spyder's and such but tbh nothing really giving me the fizz.
Would love some input and max budget is probably £50k approximate but the biggest issue is what to go to next.

981 CGTS w/manual?
997.2 911 C2S?

all point to a Cayman R :-) have fun they seem to have all sold again.
So the obvious question - if you love it so much why change it?
You've only had it 18 months, and it's already a long way down the depreciation curve.
Keep it for another 18 months, and in that time other cars you're potentially interested in (that are higher up the depreciation curve) may become within reach.

For mini GT3 thrills Cayman R, not much can beat it for on the road spirited driving..
For a great sports / GT car with some versatility 997 C2S..old school enough with some modernity...
For something more modern a 981 GTS, brilliant handling, great cabin, superb all round package.
Owned all three, all fantastic cars, in your position only you can decide what your next step will be, but Cayman R seems the natural step to me also.

For a great sports / GT car with some versatility 997 C2S..old school enough with some modernity...
For something more modern a 981 GTS, brilliant handling, great cabin, superb all round package.
Owned all three, all fantastic cars, in your position only you can decide what your next step will be, but Cayman R seems the natural step to me also.

FWIW I switched from a V8 R8 to a 981 Boxster GTS.
The R8 was a dream car, felt every bit junior-supercar special, was reliable, brilliant fun ... And, oh that V8!
But after 2.5 years and 30,000 miles I fancied a change and nothing tickled my fancy until I saw a Carmine Red GTS and had to have it!
The R8 is better in pretty much ever area - faster, better steering feel, composure in corners, feels that bit more special, etc, etc. BUT the Porsche is so damn close, and being a smaller car, softtop, and with the laugh-out-loud asbo PSE ... I absolutely love it. PDK is brilliant and the car is so easy to pootle about in, but then stick it in sports+ and it just comes alive! And being less powerful it's more fun on fast B roads, which is where I enjoy my cars.
So I guess what I'm saying is the R8 is a credible alternative, but if you're expecting a big leap you may be surprised at just how close your Cayman is (at least to the V8).
So, in your shoes .... I'd probably go 981 GTS.
