I have owned a 55 plate Porsche 997 3.6 Carrera manual for the last week. Incredible dream experience. It has 52k miles having covered 2k in the last two years. My only niggle is a noise on the passenger side dash. It sounds like creaking leather and does this when the car is sub 3k revs. It’s minor, but is irritating me in a car that’s mint in all other respects. The simple answer is to drive the car at 3k revs plus as much as poss, but I would like to sort. Any thoughts welcomed. Thanks

I would get someone to listen in the passenger seat to try and locate the culprit and take it from there if you can fix it yourself or take it to a local indie. I had a squeeky seatbelt bolster which just needed a couple of taps with a soft hammer. As a side note are you aware that its good practice not to rev it passed 3k until the oil temp is well up?

Creams and rattles are my kryptonite which is unfortunate as I often have an older car or 2 in my fleet. If you can’t reach around and feel for it or get someone to drive and do the same just delegate it to an honest Indi garage. It’s not always straightforward. Similar creak from the dash in my R8 was a failing shock absorber! No amount of leaning over and pressing things would have sorted that!

Have you accidentally pasted a section from one of your "special interest" sites Jake?

Chaps. Thank you. I have booked the car into my local Indie to get the rattle checked out and a full service, just to make sure everything is in order. As an aside the 997 is a marvellous experience and my first ever Porsche. So enjoying it.

Good Good. Let us know how you get on. I've had my 997 3 years now and it is still a joy every time i get in it.

Car back from my local indi - good guys. Dashboard removed, and replaced totally eliminating rattle drivers side. Still some noise on the left. Returned the car and they have had the car for a week and driven in different weather conditions and are convinced all is good now- although to my mind noise not entirely eliminated. Probably it’s just me being a soft suspension Merc owner that needs to get used to 997 characteristics. Still a brilliant car though
