I went to view that back in '18, keen to buy it in its pre-pimped state (it looked pretty nice back then, LSD, GT3 front bumper and rear wing, Carrera Sport wheels, Hartech rebuild). Unfortunately it had clearly had a serious bump on the offside and rear quarter, that wasn't very well repaired, so I bailed and bought a kitchen instead
Here you go ... so the car need inspecting ...

"The silver paintwork is reported to be in generally good condition given the car’s age and usage, though the seller notes some damage to the front splitter, a small dent on the roof rail, and that the front bumper has been repainted. There are also imperfections on the rear bumper around the diffuser, sticky residue on the front side markers, and a few other minor blemishes around the car, as well as hazing on the headlight lenses."

And the airbag light is on because the car has airbag delete .... I guess it could have a non airbag steering wheel, but what do I know ?

How on earth is this unsold?

£281,500 seems a strong figure.
Yup amazing they would take at that reserve. As I posted a few days ago there was nowhere near enough information on that listing to buy a car like a Speedster comfortably. I raised that before and I know Yellow said he knew the guy that was bidding on it was no fool but they are such valuable cars that history and knowledge of restoration is so important. Not enough info to really get a bidding contest going and CC would have known that…
Its no place to buy a speedster is it?,i did say maybe he knows more on the car.The engine sounded ambiguous with original internals,i have been looking for the right speedster for the last two years, again daft asks on cars with no real provenance, there are plenty of speedsters for sale with new front and rear clips, floors and so on,not much left of the original cars etc.
You need to be a real enthusiast to buy a speedster, and if you are, most look for the before during and after resto. If no photoghraphic evidence the car will have a ceiling price.
A full resto on a 356 is eyewatering, and sadly a lot of resto cars have lots of replica hardware which is pure junk.
The cars are very slow, poor brakes and leak like a sieve, they look great and when set up well, fun to drive, the one on cc looked a nice enough car and no doubt a great fun car for summertime.

This was my car from 2014 to 2017. I purchased it from Alexanders Prestige. Shortly after taking delivery I noticed the car was using a lot of oil. It was returned to their workshop where they found out the liners were scored. They sent the engine off to Hartech for the rebuild.

I took part in one of they UK road Rallys, Will not say the name as the whole thing was a farce and ended up with legal proceedings being brought against me from the guy who run the company. This company does not operate anymore.

When I removed the graphics a small piece of lacquer came off the rear offside arch. I never had it repaired so it must have been one of the next owners who got it fixed badly

That, looks bloody fantastic!

Love what someone’s done to that…very, very tempting…!
Its an interesting car, certainly

Apart from the tasteless red accents all over it (Hopefully they are easily removable)

It's been for sale for a while. Was up for >£50k originally, then dropped to c.£45k, failed to sell on Car & Classic in November for £36k and my guess is that it won't meet the reserve on CC either.

Fantastic pics. I love these posts of the most important possessions in life, the things that make weekends come alive and make you jump out of bed first thing to get some milk, and also with cars in them, too.

Interesting. Good info!

When I viewed it I noticed a chip about 10x5mm in the paint on the offside rear quarter, between the wheel arch and the rear side window, around where the curve starts levelling out. It was deep, way down through the base coat but had been touched in. On closer inspection there was overspray around the window seals, door handle, inside the arch etc. and a few other tell-tale signs of a repair. It looked like it hadn't been done properly and the chip happened post-repair.

The garage selling it at the time posted on social media later that they had to investigate an issue with it driving a bit strangely, that was apparently down to rear tyres at different wear levels, but I always suspected it had been in a bump that damaged something affecting the alignment.

I've no issues with previously damaged and properly repaired cars, mine is a repaired Cat-D. But it needs to be factored into the price, and I don't think this one is.

Absolutely smile I suspect angry little Walter has not had the privilege of dog ownership. As much as I love cars, they fall into second place behind my hounds.

I’m no GT3 aficionado, so someone will need to educate me a little on what clubsport and clubsport interior are, but the seller has put a couple of cars through CC recent,y and all of them appear to have had some issues.
Anyone know what this one (didn’t?) sell for?

IIRC it was around 62 the last time I looked at it. Not sure if it went any higher than that before the end.

What's fair value for something like that?

That sort of thing is my dream retirement project. Heading into the garage and tinkering around for a few hours, or get some mates round to help. Kinda like a big Mechano set. Financially it might not make sense - but having watched my own inheritance disappear at the marina makes you realise sometimes it doesn’t matter.

Discussed on another thread…it will cost as much to finish it as it will be worth. Probably more. Whatever it costs at auction is the minimum of what it will cost you in excess of what it will end up being worth.
