I think it’s a legitimate & reasonable question to ask if you were thinking about buying it as it was quite an unusual thing to happen.

Well yes assuming it sells for the current full asking.

I was thinking it'd sell for 130 so give or take it makes it 50k ish.

Be good to know a little more about what makes this car so much cheaper than the other advertised online

There was a lot of (at times reasonable) questioning of certain auctions/history of cars/certain practices of the site.

I think either PH mods got a bit worried about being sued or Collecting Cars sent a strongly worded email as it got shut down sharply by a moderator.

So it now has a cage..... it’s just not as original or as good as the PTS yellow car. There was a guards red car sold around the turn of the year. It was up for around £125k. Looked a nice car and perhaps more original then the Ashgoods car.

I think it was my fault as I was pointing people to the car that I was selling at the time on the CC website via the thread - broke the rules apparently. I got a strong email from PH, which was fair enough I guess smile

I think the answer is that a lot of the cars advertised online like the cars that are at Sports Purpose, Hexagon etc in the £175k to £200k bracket just aren't selling. The Hexagon car must have been there for 18 months.

Cars need to be have have very good original condition (not painted), be a very desirable colour and/or be low mileage to get good money...and. of course, have a good history.

A nice clean RS with normal miles in say Red or Silver is I think a £150k car. RSVP's was exceptional condition and PTS. The Cheshire Sport Classics car was higher mileage and had been used properly and was at the stage where it needed painting. JZM sold a red one one last year which had been painted for £150k and RPM had one advertised for £155k which desperately needed painting and I don't think sold.

This Silver car that is now at Ashgood went through Silverstone Auctions last year and failed to sell with a high bid of £120k (Ashgood say in their description it sold so maybe it did after the fact but normally the auction house would claim the sale for their stats)

https://cms.silverstoneauctions.com/events/2020-au...

So it's been through two auctions in the last 12 months failed to sell at both and is now on sale at it's second dealer.

The silver 964RS that was on CC is in Total911 magazine this month, it is one of the columnists cars. In the article he details the paint work done and other aspects of the car.

The reason I believe it’s the same car is the registration number is visible in the magazine article and was on the CC website.

fine for chassis...but what is the story behind the engine? was it changed/swapped?

Another RS coming on CC. Red that looks like it’s been used properly judging by the paint and harnesses inside

https://collectingcars.com/for-sale/1990-porsche-9...

I wonder if it’s the car that RPM were trying to sell last year as judging by the number plate surrounds the owner is a client. That car had carbon doors.

yeah, looks like the same car - shocking paint, but if you want one to track and hack about it, perfect !

i'll give him £50 large.

I had a bit of a mooch around that car at RPM last Sept when I was dropping my 996 off for some CSR-ing. It's certainly at the scruffy end of the spectrum, but looked straight and honest. It's had a MAF conversion by the looks of it, but otherwise it's as it should be in the important aspects. I can't vouch for the carbon doors - I really wasn't looking that closely, just killing time. As an ex 964 RS owner, nothing jumped out at me as untoward........
As a car to use it certainly fits the bill, just not sure I would want to be paying the price RPM were asking which was definitely stepping on the toes of some much tidier examples. It would probably cost £20-£30k to put that back to mint.
Such is the curious world of Porsche, I wonder if this turned out to be a 100% original paint / unrestored example, there might be a perverse premium for survivor status ??? (remember - no virgins in the bordello.........)

yeap, agree - perhaps it's the most honest car out there ! certainly holds some appeal if it is. all these so called concours examples is a bit of a laugh, given where these cars were at only 15-18 years ago (and £25-30k and track hacks mostly).

Thank you for all your comments.

It was my car.

I bought it last year for £135k for my 40th, life savings spent on it.

It had been stored for years so needed a good going through, this turned into a mini restoration ..

Full repaint, brakes rebuilt, new tires, new seals, suspension stripped and cleaned...... the list goes on.

Ended up spending around £35k-£40k in the end on my dream car..

A house development and expanding business needed some extra cash flow so listed the RS on CC in good faith.

Half way though the auction someone from Italy emails CC and tells them it had a crash and was repaired by Porsche to the highest standards , I was told this and decided to remove the car from sale as I was under pressure to keep it live and needed time to digest what I had been told.

I then got a fair offer from ashgood and sold it to them.

I’ve lost a lot of money.

This has stressed me out and not been good for me.!!!

The car was matching numbers , confirmed on the COA from Porsche, the service book was a replacement hence the hand written engine number put that right.

Hope that clears everything up..

All I can say is the RS is immaculate! Like new condition, matching numbers and genuine Milage..

Someone will be getting a super car that owes me £165k ish..

All / most 964’s have history.

I was honest on this one and did the right thing to remove it and then sell it cheaper disclosing the fact it’s had history.

The end.
