Hi Guys. I have a Porsche 987 2009. I have noticed a small leak under my car when I drive for say 10minutes and when I switch on the air con no cool air and I have noticed that both fans do not work under the front bumper. Any ideas?

What is the leak? Coolant? Water? AC oil?

I'd guess that the two things may be unconnected. The AC condensers rot and will eventually lose gas. If this is the case, you'll need to replace them and regas the system. The radiator fans only come on when the DME tells them to (they differ in this way from the 986/996) but even when they are on, they are not as loud or obvious as the fans on the 986. Take it for a good long drive and then carefully stick your hand under the front bumper at each side (don't stick it up into the bumper). If they are still not working, you may need new fans

The leak seems to be coolent as it looks pink. I was also under the impression that if you switch on your A/C the fans start up in which I have checked. The fans are free and not seized up. As you also said about taking the car for a long spin I am afraid that the leak will get worse. It only leaks when I am driving. And finally I have noticed that the temperature gauge in the car is running normal.

Yeah if it's coolant, definitely don't take it for a spin. It'll probably be corroded crossover pipes - £800+ at a garage, around £200 if you DIY.

The fans are computer controlled in the 987 and don't automatically come on with the AC as they did with the 986. The lack of AC is probably a corroded condenser but before you go replacing parts, maybe get somebody to find the leak for you

Thanks I will get it checked out. Just to let you know I have not lost to much coolent as I see the liquid on the floor after I take her for a spin and I have been keeping an eye on the coolent and no need to top up yet.

Just brought mine back about an hour ago from having the crossover pipes done. Also budget at least front wheel alignment - the crossmember has to be dropped to do the job, so wheel alignment highly recommended after it's done.

They're a very common issue on the 987, along with radiators corroding because crud has built up around the bottom of the rads and not been cleaned out.

Thanks for the information. I take it you have the 987 as well. Can I ask how much it cost, and did you go through a main dealer and and was the work completed on the same day?.
