Did a track dat recently on the Silverstone GP circuit in my 991.2 GT3…it was a Pirelli orgnaised/sponsored day so there were a few OEM’s there with cars you could have a go in, I drove a McLaren 620 R on track….it blew me away…it’s stability and grip levels were on a totally different level to my GT3 and you can put slicks on the 620R.
If I was a serious track day driver I’d be very tempted by that or one of the other focused McLaren’s. Would love to try a 675 LT. Caveat that I have never driven a modern RS of any kind though.
Ah, the Pirelli day at the beginning/middle of June I guess. Didn't realise OEMs were offering the chance to rag some cars should have tried harder to make the day...darnIf I was a serious track day driver I’d be very tempted by that or one of the other focused McLaren’s. Funnily enough I was talking to a couple of other people I know about the 620r at brands gp just earlier this week - both had previously owned or currently own a 675 and found the 620r the better car to drive actually. Will admit to being a little surprised by that as I thought the 675 was an exceptional car when I had a go in one years ago but as one of them definitely knows how to drive, it does seem the 620 is quite the car. Almost tempting but I have to admit my last experience with Mclaren have left me a little wary of ownership again. Great cars to drive but the associated ownership issues aren't necessarily quite as pleasant.
Lamborghini
Ferrari
McLaren
Pagani (passenger laps only)
I drove a Huracan Evo and 620 R on track and an 812 GTS on the road,
Huracan did nothing for me at all, 812 test route was ste so couldn’t really get an idea for the car but the 620 R was just bloody fantastic. I was amazed at how keen the instructors were to let us push the cars on track……
A friend drove a 720 S on track which he loved….instructor told him the 620 R was the one to drive on track though. Apparently it’s not great on road.
Your comments about running costs are what worry me about Mclaren. Servicing, warranty and from what I have read the need to get cars inspected pre and post track use.

I think the 4.0 Boxster Spyder or GTS a really good shout as a fun road car. Money no object I'd be v.tempted by a 911 Speedster
I think a well thought out and cleverly specced RPMT 997.1 or .2 3.8 S CSR would trounce most of the them from a daily usability, practicality, tactility, engagement and ultimate fun perspective. No issue with having to remove PPF's or other such nonsense to make them sound like a real Porsche either. Added bonuses ? You get "real" steering, a huge choice of exhaust options and you get to build the car you want, rather than the car Stuttgart wants to sell you ...
I have to brutally honest, I didn't like or particularly enjoy driving either of my 997.1 GT3's on anything other than a hoon. The NVH was far worse than a well fettled, totally stock Mk1 996 GT3, and the 997 dash with it's plethora of buttons was a complete mess, added to which the mismatched weighting of the gearshift ruined the driving experience for me (unless you were totally on it).
On the original Cups the Meteor grey car was a noisy, ill-riding thing. When I fitted Supersports to the Slate grey car, it was definite improvement, but it was still a noisy, harsh driving environment.
Sh*t, I think I'm getting old ....

The penny drops, we were at a little gathering in Norfolk on Saturday morning. Never got a chance to talk.
Loved that your Touring is LHD, but was slightly besotted with the 356 next door, also with the steering wheel on the correct side
Couldn’t agree more re the Touring. Had many GT products and also the ‘cookers’. All brilliant but the Touring has the stealth but screams like a banshee and can track with the best of them when needed. Depends what you favour ultimately and the only right choice is the right one for you - the beauty of Porsche as they make something for everyone. However, the Touring is a special thing and worth a look.
I've had a number of GT3's and 'daily'd' the last one (991.2) for year or so. Agree with the above that it can be hard going some of the time but the main thing that struck me was what a waste - as previous poster said its meant for hooning !
I ran a GT4 and 981 GTS Boxster at the same time for a while and preferred the latter as a road car - definitely sounded better
Right now I have what I believe is the best combo for the roads near me - a 718 Boxster 4.0 and a GR Yaris.........until / if I can get a Touring

In a sense that’s why I have a 981 Spyder for the road - for me, just focussed enough. Seems a shame to use a 997 GT3 just for the track… I think if I wanted a track car I’d get an old single seater or Caterham.
Great lifestyle car with normal tyres and nothing to prove and in some ways more usable than 718 Spyder with its GT4 underpinnings.Dr S said:
After you tracked your GT2 regularly, I can imagine that using it on the road is a bit of a downer. I do love my GT3s for road use, though. Whilst they are surely even more fun on track, I still prefer them over the vanilla 911s on the road. It's the sense of connection, directness and raw sensations I love. And they still work very well on long journeys, like the roundtrips to races at the Ring
Me too,the connection to the road you feel is just way ahead of the rest of the porsche range (of which I am a huge fan) .IMI A said:

I agree with this. The gt2 is fun 100% times on the track and 10% on the road, as a track car I'd take my prepd gt2 over most track focused cars anyday.Money no object a speedster makes sense but with that logic a simple c2s also makes sense

And forgetful perhaps? there’s a plethora of buttons in a 997? Mine has three. A trio of buttons. Ok, maybe a quartet if you include the hazard warning switch or even a quintet if you include central locking but 996 has those too. I drove a 997.1 GT3 a couple of weeks ago and it reminded me how civilised a car it was on the road. NVH didn’t enter my head. This is a subjective topic I realise. Hope everyone else does too..On the original Cups the Meteor grey car was a noisy, ill-riding thing.
