No problem, chap. Just remember to run with as little weight as possible, including emptying all fluid reservoirs

Well, it's all over!! Thank God.

Thank you all very much for your sponsorship. On the website (www.justgiving.com/runnerjohn) I have raised £2,856 for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust so far, plus a bit extra cash at work. I am really pleased with that.

It's not too late to sponsor me, I'll wait a few more days before giving the money to the CF Trust, have a look here, donate securely and the tax man tops up your donation by 28%!!

I managed 1 hour 57 minutes. I was quite pleased with that because I wanted to get in under 2 hours. But the Great North Run is too busy to do your best possible time. It was also too hot today. 4 blokes died today in the run, paramedics said that the unusually high temperature may have been a large factor in causing this. One guy dropped down dead right on front of my mum and dad who were spectating. Dad had to run across the road to get an ambulance. Sad stuff. I saw another fella being given CPR at the side of the road, but he looked very dead to me. RIP.

Thanks for the sponsorship fellas. Much appreciated.

Well done, John. I sponsored someone at work as well and have promised another tenner to the quicker of the pair of you... and 1hr 57 will be difficult for him to beat. I'll find out his time later

Congratulations Johnny!

Well done, Great cause.
And a very good time.

On a sombre note, thoughts go out to the families of the poor souls who didn't make it.Is the otherwise healthy body so at risk in running 13 miles in the heat?
Now that the race is out of the way you will be able to concentrate on the RS a bit more!!

If I was the faster bloke, I would be chuffed to raise the extra tenner. Cheers Dom. Great stuff.

Thanks mate.

You can't say if the otherwise fit individual will be OK in a half marathon. The youngest to die yesterday on the GNR was only 28 years old. He would have completed the race in an awesome 1 hour 20, had he not died.

I saw him dead, as did thouseands of others, and it was a shocking site. But what really pisses me off is that it took 40 minutes for the paramedic crew to get to him. His sister was speaking on the radio today, that's where that inforamtion is from. If I was her, I would be having words with the race organisers and the ambulance service to ask what on earth took them so long.

The chap was having CPR from a first aid volunteer whose day job was as a dental nurse. No disrespect to dental nurses, but 40 minutes of her doing CPR will not keep anyone alive. You need CPR, oxygen and crucially (quite often) defibrilation (electric shock throught the chest wall) within a few minutes. Not 40 minutes. I can't think of a decent excuse for this delay.

I heard that "1 or 2" people die every year on the GNR. So why not have a paramedic crew stationed every half mile along the course to respond rapidly? Get crews from outside the county if necessary. For heavens sake.......they knew beforehand that it was likely people would die.....so FFS prepare for it!! And the most likely cause of death in a half marathon is cardiac arrest secondary to an arrythmia (secondary to a great number of possible cardiac problems) which requires 200 joules of DC electrical current to go throught the chest to make a start with resolving the matter.

What a shambles.

Rant over.

Thanks Domster for the extra 10 pounds. I do feel a bit bad that I was "competing" against a man in a banana suit though!

Yeah, I didn't spot that until today. I expect you to do a 1.56 dressed as a vegetable next year

In all seriousness, well done.
