What sort of percentage of turbos have left the factory with the x50 upgrade?
It seems very small amount of buyers fitted the upgrade?

I don't think the X50 option was availble for the first two years. I know Mart1n took delivery of one in October 01, so assume it was available on 02 M/Y cars onwards. Worldwide I think the ratio of uptake once available was 1 in 3, I think in the UK it was lower than that though.

All the latest 996 TurboS cars include the X50 upgrade as standard.

I certainly found that the majority of 996TTs advertised when I was looking, were non X50. It seemed to be quite rare to find one with the X50 option.

Yeah, not many around. Anyone selling an early, black TT X50, get in touch please.

Shame you didn't buy buster's car 3/4 months ago. Someone had a bloody bargain. Good luck with your search.

You may like to stick a free advert in the PH "Porsche wanted" section.

Didn't know he'd moved on again?

Dam, sorry to read that news.
Hope his health improves.

If I might be so bold, what was the outcome of the sale - dealer or private?

Dazren, yeah missed that one. I emailed Buster at the time but it had been sold by the time I got in touch to a Porsche specialist. Hope his health is better.

You won't get an early car with X50. The option only became available in 2002 or 2003. Thats one of the reasons that there aren't many around, the other, of course, is price.

Are 996TT X50's rare ?

Well as someone said, 1 in 3 approx. of all Turbo's made is an X50, therefore out of the 30 I see every day, 10 are X50's.

I would therefore say, NO, they are far from rare.

sorry, but couldn't resist

As Dazren said, I think the ratio is far lower than that in the UK unless the Porsche dealers don;t mention the X50 option often on their used car spec list. Strangely, more tiptronics seem to have the X50 although I don't want a tip.

Hobo. It's not one in 3 of turbos on the road, but 1 in 3 during the period the option was available. The option was not avialble on the first 1 1/12 to 2 years of production.

I'm guessing that used manual X50s spend less time on the forecourt than the tiptronic X50s? If this is the case, there may appear to be more tiptronic X50s for sale, but this fact cannot be taken as an indication of the ratio of manual/tiptronic that were built.

Only jesting Mr Dazren, but do see a fair few of them around here (I suspect because they are quite good).

BUT, why oh why would anyone want a Tiptronic one ?
