Is this how it's going to be - Porsche hate??
Discussion
So far, I haven’t noticed anything different to other less unusual cars I have owned, but I am starting to get paranoid, reading some of the tales on here.
Yesterday, I had a Golf R that looked to be closely following me on the motorway. But, in hindsight, he might just have decided I was keeping left at the appropriate times and going fast enough for him anyway.

In the year that I've had mine, I haven't noticed anything in terms of hate despite having a "look at me" lump of a spoiler and housing (or whatever you call it). Sure, some people get excited and tailgate me hoping that I drive faster, but most don't. And despite me referring to other Porsche drivers as Porsche wkers (ie "look at that Porsche wker" or saying "Porsches are so common!" to my passenger ), I've only had positive remarks from others.
Interesting thread …have never owned a Porsche but got the coffee beans a couple of times in my V10 plus R8 which suprised me tbh...my old V12 Vantage and my current Mclaren universally loved by the public...I think being British built cars helps in some way.
In general for the jealous types who comment negatively on someone else's car if only they could realise you having that car makes not a jot of difference to their (miserable) lives.

Going along with the ‘it’s how it’s being driven’ theme whenever I see any R8, for some bizarre reason, more often than not it’s being driven in an attention seeking kinda way…….still in second gear when it prob should be in 3rd or 4th or being hammered for 50 yards in a small gap in the traffic. Complete luck of the draw I'd say.
If you have any car which could be perceived as 'flash', eventually someone will take exception to it. That is the sad reality of it, and as the poster says above, that will likely increase the longer living costs rise.
People aren't overwhelming patriotic when they see a Lotus; it's just most people don't think they're that expensive, and therefore aren't threatened. That's of course the same reason why some will choose a Boxster over an Elise - they like that people think they're driving something expensive.
We all make judgements about what others drive and then make assumptions of what they're like as drivers. In the same day I'd jump from my Smart and be let out of every junction (but cut in front of at motorway exits), to then treated with a very wide berth in my drug dealer spec all black RS6. In the Porsche people would clearly avoid making eye contact so they didn't feel like they needed to let me out of junctions.

Some jealous snapped the rear wiper off my cayman S the other night and gouged the paint on the boot lid.
Hope they get run over.
I do fear that we will see more of this as this recession gets into full swing. I think I would be minded to hide away anything "flash". Hope they get run over.
