I sat in a variety of seats last week, forgot my helmet so am going back next week, but headroom feels like it’s going to be very tight with helmet on. The most space seemed to be with the two way seats due to the ability to recline and therefore give more headspace. The questions arises around seat tilt brackets. Obviously they are only possible with the carbon buckets, has anyone used the seat recliner brackets to gain more headroom successfully?

Also, I have read that the seat cushions can be removed, they are only attached with velcro I believe, is this correct and can they be removed to provide more headroom just for the track day?

I am very keen on the GT4 hence the desperation to get myself in it with helmet. I am hoping a combination of seat tilt and cushion removal will get me in. The dealer said the cushions would need to be unstitched, which I don’t think is correct given all the seat insert replacements available, but I don’t own the car so don’t want to start messing around with it in the showroom too much.

Any pointers would be appreciated. I am 6 foot 5 by the way for additional info.

I’m 6.2, mine with carbon buckets was just about fine for me without a helmet, could see it being very tight in there with a helmet at 6.5.

Changing the angle to the seat may help.

I’m 1m90, and I have no problem at all with the bucket seats. They have a height adjustment which I set as low as possible, and I feel that I still have plenty of space…

Seat inserts do indeed velcro out. Just be aware of the clipped U-shaped part at the front under your knees which can be hard to remove without damaging the connective stitching.

I'd look at getting some custom inserts with thinner padding if you go down this route rather than taking the cushions on and off constantly.

Thanks for all replies so far.

This seems like it will provide the best option along with the recliners. I have renewed hope with this news. Do you have any idea roughly how thick the OEM seat inserts are?

From memory, about 1.5 to 2 inches maybe?

I'm 6' 5" and fine in my 718 GT4 with buckets with a helmet on. My brother who is 6' 10" not so much!

Little update, went down with my helmet today. Seat insert peeled off and I fit! Probably will do the seat tilt as well for a little more room but the hunt is on….

ClassicFX make custom seat inserts for Porsches and may be able to make you a thin one in Tempur. No seat cushion will be pretty firm.

Good luck with the hunt !
