Not watched the above video yet.

I got flashed once by the Sliver 3RS (after Clay Hill before Water Tower); no big deal as I wasn’t turning left just yet so I stayed right and let him get on with it.

Not sure which silver 3RS that was as there were at least two.

Anyway I had a really good day despite the stoppages. Track was pretty quiet after 2:30/3:00pm.

Managed to catch up / meet with a few PHers / people I follow on social so all in all a good day out.

Never met anyone at a track day who's got a full valet team to detail their car in the pits before. bow

Clearly I need to up my game.

I don't do a lot on track (one day last year) and getting to Oulton was a 4.5 hour slog on Thursday. I am so glad I came and thanks to everyone who said hello, it was really good meeting so many people from this forum (sorry Twinfan - I know I missed you). It was tough learning a new track in the morning and I know there were some quick guys out there - hope I kept out of the way! Afternoon was really fun - I really enjoyed a session chasing a grey GT2 for several wonderful laps - thanks whoever you were for the lesson on lines and braking ! Chapeau to Paul for organising this for 20+ years. I hope to see you next year. Snowy

Need to get myself booked up on a track day in my 992.

I'm very familiar with Donington GP and Silverstone GP circuits as done a few track days there on my bikes over the years. Also had a Fiesta ST150 Track Car for a bit a did 2 track days at Donny last year with it.

Will keep a look out if any days become available, all Porsche days seem fully booked frown

This is all very interesting and very useful ...

I find myself wondering now if I really need to run that kerb so hard ... but I still like to know where I should be leaning on the car much more smile

Of course a racing driver would be pushing the car until it slid, but that's no longer me ...

Controlling wear (and cost) whilst having fun is my way forward ... and yes, the last part of the day was the best !!
I just personally don't feel like riding the top of that kerb at the 1st chicane is really that beneficial to me.... I don't want to risk the car in that way even though its now built to take it... its my current pride and joy.. so just doesn't feel particularly mechanically sympathetic, still a road car, not a race car.
I know that I have far more time to gain in maximising the other corners... so happy to sacrifice this one, as there are no prizes lol.

Thanks. GoPro "Hero5 Session", on a roll cage mount. I think being bolted to cage helps image stability and also sound a bit.

It films well enough, but has it's limits. The GoPro iPhone software is clunky. The battery lasts no time at all, so it has to be plugged into power.

Newer iterations of the GoPro camera might be better. There's other stuff too, like the Insta360 camera.

Not sure what I'd go for next time around.
Thankyou Digga, trying out a friend's GoPro Hero 8, I like the viewpoint that you have, but my S4 has sport seats so need to work out how to fit from a similar position, may try suction mount to the panoramic roof inside

IME suction mounts work okay. Just make sure you get a good fix every time though. Nothing more unnerving than being overtaken by your own camera as you brake hard for a corner.

I'm a west country boy, so it used to be may local (before moving to London in 2010) and I know it well.

The track is small, fast, and very unforgiving if you get it wrong because there is pretty much nothing to speak of in terms of run-off area(s). If it's busy it's quite easy to unintentionally get caught-up in somebody else's mistake, especially if there are dheads out there driving well past their knowledge of the track. But.... if the traffic is moderate, the sun is out, and you take your time to get your eye in, then it's fun and very rewarding! driving

2 places of caution:
- The very unexpected undulation going into Avon Rise, get that wrong and you'll be going into quarry at a speed/angle which you simply can't alter, which means go straight/head on towards the tyrewall.
- The final corner looks like you can floor it a lot earlier than you should. You can't, it's tighter than it looks so get that wrong and you'll be heading across the small grass patch for a very close side-on rendezvous with the barrier.

It's a track that hasn't really changed in its lifetime.

Dont get put off its a great track, that has changed, avon is nothing like it used to be since it got resurfaced, they took alot of the undulation out.The first chicane was put in to keep speed sensible down the back, and just turn in later for the last corner. The approach speed to quarry is fast when you get to know it,as said learn it and respect the great track.

Apologies if I came across as if I was trying to put people off, that wasn't my intention. I just think that going into Combe with your eyes wide open is very helpful. As said, IMO it's a great track and can be very rewarding if you treat it and the conditions right. smile
