Does this look dodgy? (ebay)

Only once when mine was getting plates swapped, did it not show up for a week or two,
but normally,
is quite a handy & (straightforward) 'first stop'
when looking into car details.
Certainly before having a cars history investigated at any costs.
And the printout is a handy reff, to show seller and perhaps wrong-foot him a bit on day one,
after all, as said previously, a whole heap of notes and reciepts saying this and thats been done, are one thing,
a question on number plates clarity might be a bit more pertinent, since its your hardearned.

Just what I was thinking.
This car may be good value simply because nervous buyers are scared off. Once purchased, if you subsequently take the time to make sure all it's details are corrected on the various databases It shouldn't be a problem should you wish to sell it in the future.
What's the best/most reliable way of checking the cars provenance through it's vin number?

Good grief guys, what about a bit of lateral thinking?
How many reputable Porsche specialists are there in Lancashire?
1. Chris Sanderson
2. Hartech
3. Classic Car Workshop
(9m and T9 are in Cheshire, so we don't count!)
Have you tried phoning them and asking if they looked after the car?
You never know, if they know the owner well (and they should do given the ammount that he has spent!) they may be willing to act as a trustworthy broker, allowing you to pay cash to them and they forward it on to the foreign bank......

Calm down dear!
Prior to your post I had no idea how many reputable Porsche specialists were in Lancashire. So rather than the scattergun approach, I simply intended to wait for him to reply to my email, wherein I'd asked him who the specialist was in order to arrange a viewing.
If I don't get a reply I could try doing a telethon, but in all likelyhood I'd simply say bugger it if the guy can't be bothered replying.
Bloody hell it`s like a WI jam making seminar.
Go and look at the car, if you`re happy with the results of your inspection do an HPI check on the car (the only proper way of checking data etc - and even then it`s not 100% perfect), then either buy directly or bid as per ebay regulations.
All you can tell from a couple of grubby photos is that it`s a 911 shaped car that has at least 3 wheels on it.
Incidentally when you go and look at the car make sure you do actually look at it and not just the speedo. What wears the car out is work not miles and work is a combination of engine starts and hours run.
On the plus side our ride on mower is just £33 away from selling with 3 days still to go and the 944 is green for go with hours still to run !
Henry 100% feedback (3) !!

Bl**dy hell, Irate Porsche specialists!
You can wait all day for one and then two come along in the same thread!
Just to clarify. The reason I havent been to look at it, is that I don't know where it is.
I have just recieved this (long awaited) message from the seller...
"In order to minimise inconvenience to our mechanic and his garage, I would like viewings to take place Fri/Saturday if possible. If you are seriously interested in the car and can do those dates, please let me know and I will release the phone number of the garage. However, please note that questions should be to me, not our mechanic. Thanks"
Which still doesn't tell me who has the car! :bangshead: but at least gets me a little closer to seeing it.
If it doesn't come off, do you have any cars to tempt me with Henry? I was particularly keen on a nice black LHD 964 you had in a little while ago.
It never ceases to amaze me how hard some people make it for buyers. If the chap is nervous or hasn`t got much time and his car is so lovely I`m at a loss as to why he simply doesn`t get us or one of our kind involved. We buy the car in 15 minutes. The downside of course, (as the chap who`s just left with his very Shiny but unsold 3.2 Carrera coupe), is that we do spot when they`ve been beaten to a pulp !
Stock is as per website. The £11k LHD 964 tip coupe has to be good value for someone with circa £10k to spend on a 911.
Just be carefull when you do finally get to see the SC, 1978 is a very long time ago.
If all else fails you still just about have time to buy our ride on lawn mower, 6 speed gearbox, air cooled, traction control & assume a/c doesn`t work ! (I lied about the traction control bit).

That lawnmowers tempting - can you fit aftermarket traction control?
I must admit the hassle factor involved in buying this 911sc is wearing me down.
Perhaps I should buy your £11k 964 instead Henry.
What would you offer me part ex against a fantastic 1992 XJR-S?
(see profile and email me if you're interested).
But what's the best buy for a £10-£11k usable everyday car?
A 1990 LHD 964 tiptronic or a 1995 968 sport manual?
But I digress...
(Oh and I believe the HPI to be clear on the 911SC, although it only accounts for 1998 onwards).

LHD 964 represents something of a performance bargain IMHO - you have to be picky when buying - but if you get a sorted one. -i.e. where someone else has taken it through the 'expensive' phase, you get a hell of a lot of reliable motor for the money.
The reputation for leaks/DMF problems has made them less desirable for a proportion of potential owners - thus the residuals are affected.
there are some bad cars out there, (lord I saw a few ) and there are (probably fewer) great cars.
I've heard that the tiptronics are generally very reliable and if your using as a day to day city car I'm sure it will be a blessing.
I quite recently did the 3.2/964 dilemma (resulting in buying a 964) so please feel free to mail me with any questions
