Only if you have a Boxer!
Got to make us 911 boys feel we have not wasted our money on a car that doesnt handle as well or in the real world is not much faster. if we cant mock, poke fun, we might actually feel a bit sad and inadequete.....
aye! don't smell that coffee
All this sh*te about the 911 being the "proper porsche" is just jealous uninformed bollux ..........fact:the boxster is a porsche designed vehicle from the outset...or did any other manufacturer help?...no...then it's a proper porsche.......
For 70k you buy the look of the 911 but for 45k with a boxster you buy the supreme driving experience and with the extra 25k you buy the quintessential used 993.
Drive your cars and who gives a feck if someone waves or not.....

Yes it is strange inteet.
I wave at everyone from my Boxster S and have had the jibes from people (most of whome actually have never owned and will ever own one of these superb machines)....it was at the top of my affordability curve and being 26 i thought i was doing OK!
Now rolling into 911 purchase territory and driving a number i can see the pros and cons of both. Whilst the Boxster S has a lovely low end howl under acceleration the 911 (964's) i've driven recently have a BIG sound...very nice.
Anyway back to the topic! Sometimes you do and sometimes you don't get waves...sometimes people who buy Boxsters (namely either 40/50 year old males or 30yr olds) want to feel exclusive and you can tell they are not amused at there being another Boxster around....simply ruining their exclusivity hahaha...very sad!
I suppose its the difference between buying one to be seen in and buying one to drive and make the most out of the experience.

I've always waved at other Porsche drivers when out in my 911 and it tends to be the owners of the older cars ie pre 996 911s and the 944 brigade who wave back.

The same could apply to under 30's being able to
get into the prestige marque for the same price as an entry level beemer or merc and then giving off the impression that they are "the dogs danglies" as they drive a porsche...........
Making assumptions is all well and good but it applies to all ages and others probably think the same of you..........ie: looking young at 26 others may assume that you are driving daddies car ...such is life .......enjoy the motor.

Of course the Boxster a proper Porsche, but it's the entry level Porsche and therefore the cheapest way into new Porsche ownership. Hence poor man's 911.
This started in a number of ways imo, firstly snobby 911 owners looking down there up turned noses at a great car only to justify their 911 purchase, which on paper doesn't seem to offer much advantage over the Boxster, but in reality does, Boxster owners wouldn't be aware of this unless you've owned a 911 and got used to the better in-gear times, greater top end shove along with the challenging and incredibly involving handling traits, which justify the extra costs of the 911 over the Boxster imo. After all track times and 0-60 figures only tell you so much about a cars performance and at least on paper the cars look similar in performance terms below 100 mph.
Secondly the Boxster has been the subject of many derisory comments from the great unwashed who couldn't afford either the Boxster or 911. People like this enjoy nothing better than trying taking the shine off a great ownership experience of owning a Porsche in any fashion, basically morons and very jealous.

Very true..i agree! I got lucky on an investment and had a chance to upgrade from a Honda civic type-r to the Boxster. My dad had one of the first in the UK incidentally However i never got to drive it as i hadn't even passed my test!!!
When my dad had his Boxy it was quite well known that the average age of a Porsche owner was 50. Dunno if thats changed with the advent of the Boxy but i'm still sure it hasn't changed....
What u think?
