Dan,
Personally I wouldn't, if there's a chance its not kosher then for me its just not worth it. I was pointing out on my documents it says (perhaps erroneously) that its a 4 seater. I have no idea about type approval.

Sam

ps Your just jealous coz with that big old cage in the back you'll never fit them in.

Yep may well be a myth. Dunno how you find out though.

Sam, yeah there are times I could do without the cage, but I'm always glad its there when I put the harnesses on on track

Ah. GT3 kit it will have to be then!

No, no, no! Mods like this I think are sooo wrong. If its not a GT3 why make it look like one.

Bit like stone cladding if you ask me.

Being a stickler for originality for the most part, I take your point. However, for me, the stock 996 looks too 'soap bar' smooth and, dare I say, bland. The GT3 kit adds a welcome dose of aggression.

I certainly wouldn't put a GT3 badge on one though.

Don't shout, that's exactly what I'm saying.

But you don't have to agree with other people's taste which is what I said in the first place. Oh dear.

Absolutely! Couldn't agree more! Obviously a question of personal taste, and as has been stated "each to their own", but the Aerokit was a "must" in my book ...and the lowered suspension!!

Bollocks, you quite obviously *do* care when other people disagree with your opinion - why react so aggressively otherwise?

I think the 996 C2 is improved by the GT3 kit..wheels are especially tasty. 996 can look a little bland...compared to say a 993 C2. Just my 2p.

I notice that design911co.uk sell GT3 kits for £1695 plus VAT, any idea on how much they cost to fit?

about the same again, i did one on my first 996.

i used speedart who were selling all new original front pu, with original new side skirts and used rear wings (removed from cup cars) for £3k fitted using a official porsche bodyshop.

No need to get quite so excited or rude. I never asked you to agree : opinions are just that opinions.

I like the 911 in pure form (and the fact it is understated makes it more appealing for me). If its a GT3 RS then the additional bits & bobs make the car. But for a stock 911 C2 I think it looks wrong.

You like it max-powered up. Thats fine.

You probably like a lot of other weird things as well hence the cryptic reference to my wife's pants being in my ar5e?!

Surely if you're going to get annoyed about converting a C2/C4 into a GT3 lookalike, then you are not going to be happy about putting rear seats into a GT3!

I think the looky like thing is fine when it is something like a C2->GT3 or 993 TT -> 993 GT2. But the MR2 -> Ferrari is a little on the mad side.

maybe some people carnt afford the real thing !! and they like the look of a gt3 , so they have a replica , let them be !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!,

What like getting an MR2 Ferrari? Its not always about affording, it's also a taste thing

Its a free country (well it was last time I looked) they can do what they like,

I'm not saying people CAN'T do it simply that it is wrong, like adding unnecessary rear spoilers, purple neon lights under the car and shiny chrome wheels. Of course you can do what you like but ...

...i think that adding neon lights and chrome wheels is a completely different issue. The gt3 kit actually makes a difference to the dynamics of the car.....unlike sticking a spoiler onto a fwd corsa!!!! Porsche designed it for a gt3 so why can't it help a lowly c2??? Not everyone can justify using such a focused car like the gt3 in all conditions as an everyday car (may need extra seats for example and driver aids are essential) but love the way the gt3 looks and would like to take it onto a track once in a while. It isn't always about being able to afford it (...this sort of snobbery is pathetic!), some of us choose this as a compromise.

Does it really benefit the dynamics of a C2? I'm not so sure. It will add a lot of weight for little if nay additional benefit. So the net effect is probably a slower car.

The GT3 / GT3 RS need the additional add-ons (but are stripped out so can there isn't a net gain ... loss in fact).

But as I said if you like the look do it. I just prefer purity and seeing a car how the designers and engineers originally intended it to be.

....not sure i follow your arguement, how can it benefit one 911 and not another....similar chassis? Ok different suspension and ride height but aero dynamics can't be that different. I'm sure any 911 on a track would benefit from a bit of extra rear downforce and less front end lift going through a long sweeping corner at 100+mph? Or maybe i'm just daft, i don't profess to holding a motor engineering degree so feel free to correct me.

This should put the cat amongst the pigeons, i am one of those Stone wall clad C2 owners. I had to make the choice based on the fact i have two young children, yes we own a few vehicles all capable of carrying the rug rats but in order to justify ownership i had to take them into consideration. Now here's the thing, i decided to track my car this year and turned up to find i was amoung a large number of GT3 owners, imagine my suprise at the ease at which i both passed and left many of these owners!! It appears to me that many of these vehicles are purchased for there kudos, i think the saying is "all the gear no idea".I am the stone clad defender!!

....i'm with you darren, i'm the "stone clad" group. I completely agree with your comments....a load of pompus guff gets thrown around forums sometimes.

So to answer the original question i would go with the everyday useable c2 with gt3 aero with sport chassis and invest in some trackday tuition and you will have the best of both worlds.

There is a lot of pompous guff thrown about you're right, but guff is the lifeblood of PH, only occasionally it does get a little precious.

Don't worry, I know all about being overtaken.

Sounds about right.

I now just have to convince myself that I should let go of my beloved F-car...

No back seats and not legal to fit them as its a 2 seater on its classification.

does it definately say that on the v5?

Well, I wonder what the legal position is. Piers has a 993 RS. Most of them had no rear seats, so you may expect them to be '2 seaters'. Pierr' car, however, had rear seats from the factory.

John is correct, mine was supplied new with rear seats - The fronts were flip back 'Sports' (not bucket) seats so in emergency passengers in rear could get out! Just checked V5 and nothing is printed next to 'Number of seats' - perhaps because car was imported from Germany? I've since fitted OE Recarro buckets so don't take passengers. I've kept the 'Sports' seats for 'originality for next owner' reasons!

....shouldn't be difficult, go for a test drive in a 996, then go back home and run through your service history costs on the F car
