997 "facelift" - what would you change?
Discussion
Just interested in what you lucky 997 owners out there would like to see changed on your car if a "facelifted" model came out?
As in the 996 where they improved the interior plastics, put in electric boot release switches, updated the PCM, did new front lights etc.
Any realistic changes you'd expect to see? Or are they just so damn perfect as they are !

Not fortunate enough to own a 997 (yet), but my suggestions for improvement, for what its worth:
External doo handles - Please give us something more like the 993. Those excrescences on the doors of the 997 spoil the whole line of the car.
Internal door handles - Could we have them in metal please, they feel crap!
Interior - great improvement over the 996, but why oh why do we have to have silver plastic that looks like metal, no more pseudomorphs. Just make it out of aluuminium FFS, its a £70K car!!!
Elecrtonic remote boot release - I use the boot a lot and get rather bored having to go into the car first to open the boot.
C4S - would prefer a continuous rear reflector like the 993/996

Doo handles - a Freudian slip if ever their was one!
Can you really not open the boot remotely? I can on my Boxster.

blimey! get that on any Boxster and for both boots
spec is still a bit tight - add PSP as std and Bose on higher models
rear wiper = NCO
ali = actually aliminium
maccassar - kill anyone who specs it
and an AUX so you can plug an ipod straight into the stereo and control it via screen
- C2S & C4S should be wide body and non S models should be the standard body as opposed to the 4 & 4S having wide body.
- wish they would do something with the remote as I am always accidentily opening the trunk.
- regarding Sports Chrono with Sports Exhaust option, it is crazy that you have to be in Sports Mode to gain the benefit of the Sports Exhaust. If you don't have the Sports Chrono then Sports Exhaust gets a dedicated button which should also be the case if you have Sports Chrono option.

Wouldn't change a thing. No idea how everyone has problems with the boot. If you are setting it off with keys in your pocket you must be wearing drain pipes or something. Mine never opens accidentally.
As for having to open the door to get to the remote boot release what is that all about? The button is on the key.

Well you can guarentee in the next 2 years Porsche will tweak the car, some styling tweaks & some mechanical changes, so have to wait & see.
I would like them to revise the front end, it just looks a little plain to me & too much like the Boxster (again!) The front headlights just don't do it for me, I thought they looked a little odd at launch & still do a year on, just can't put my finger on it.

Having had 2 previous 996's, I would say that virtually all of my gripes about the previous car have been addressed in the 997S.
However, if I was being really picky:-
- the standard steering wheel (which I have) is pretty crap.
- the build quality and materials used, whilst much better, are still not quite at the £70K level.
- the fuel tank is too small.
- the Bose stereo upgrade is still awful.
- a great exhaust note, ie the PSE, should not cost more money.
- the OPC I am forced to use still needs closing down.
Cheers
Neil.

Interesting replies guys!
Plastic interior door handles? That's really poor - my Boxster's are real metal, but that could be because I've got the alu package.
I agree that the front is a styling is a bit weak - it's almost that there's too big a gap between the lights. Strangely, it's about the only car I can think of that actually looks better with number plates!
Probably won't stop me getting one though ...
