Burrana - I think its too difficult to accurately price these things so you have to keep looking until you find one that "fits" you.

FOR EXAMPLE:
I just sold my 911 for £7,250... to a friend. It was right for him.

'82 SC Targa Sport, funny red colour (NOT pink!), interior showing its age but all intact and nice, tiny attention needed on outside (not that much as some years ago it had everything sorted). On 96,000 and felt like it drove pretty much the same as when new. The front tyres could do with replacing, but do they get changed before the sale or after and how would that affect the price? The last 2 owners (for 12 years) were known to me as mechanically sympathetic guys who wouldn't hesitate to spend cash when / where needed. Loads of bills, loads of evidence of well cared for. The chap at Tower reckoned it was sorted and was a nice example.

How much was it worth? Dunno, (perhaps Henry can chuck in a figure?), but I was happy to sell for that and he was happy to buy for that, so I think that's what consitutes "a good deal".

Impossible to value without seeing but by the sound of things you were probably about right. Older cars like 3.0SC`s & 3.2 Carreras can be quite scruffy, you mention for instance your interior was a bit tired and there were some issues on the body. Addressing faults can be a costly business and make the car unviable for someone wanting a more perfect car. For them it`s better to simply buy a good car to start with. The difficulty of course is finding them.

We rarely have 3.2 / 3.0 cars in these days. Over the past few of weeks we happen to have stumbled accross a couple of really nice examples and hence have a small stock but we reject loads and loads of cars where the owner`s view of what constiutes a good car and ours differ dramatically.

Then there is the sordid business of price. If money is no object your search should be eased some what. We are conscious that cars have a finite value. A 3.2 at £18-19k isn`t a cheap car. I think a good 3.2 Carrera is closer to the £16k mark, and indeed have put our money where our mouth is when pricing our own cars.

I've recently bought a 1987 RHD 3.2 Carrera Coupe (almost identical to a previos 3.2 Carrera Coupe I had a couple of years ago which I traded up for a 993 C4).

My car had to be a Silver, G50 with Full Leather interior. it took about a year to find one but you need to be patient to get what you want when there are so few about. Good Silver 3.2's are like hens teeth because it's a popular current colour.

I did have to compromise by paying a high price and still needing to get quite a bit of work done (the car was cosmetically sound, but needed some mechanical attention).

As Henry said, nice sorted low mileage cars will cost you. Definately go and see a number, buy on condition rather than mileage and get it checked by a specialist as 911's are well built but do require money to be spent on them to keep them in top condition.

Make sure you've:
- Joined the Porsche Club GB
- Put an ad on the PCGB Wanted & 3.2 Forums
- Put an ad in Porsche Post (Porsche Club Magazine)
- Put an ad in 911 & Porsche World

I was lucky and found my 3.2 when a member on the Lotus 7 (Caterham) forum mentioned they were looking to sell their 3.2. They do come up you just need to be patient.

How about the other extreme, late 3.2 with all the trimmings high milage so no premium at all and less than £10k, if its a sorted car could be worth a look. Maybe a little reserved but theres a whale tail at least !

I quite like the cassis example you have for sale, but not entirely sure about the interior - is it really as burgundy as the pictures suggest??

190,000 miles

I know that I said I had adjusted my sights a little to include maybe over 100k, but not nearly double it?

The red one at Paul Stephens looks interesting. I have asked him for some more info. There's also a nice pinky'redish one but it's a pre G50 model.

Out of interest, how much would it cost me to get a set of Fuchs repainted to black centres, polished rims.

And I have to say, I bloody love that orange RS replica he has listed

Thanks for the heads up as ever guys.

I bought my old 3.2 from Henry some 5yrs ago. At the time I was willing to spend about 16k on a car, but I found one of Henry's with a few more miles on the clock, in good, but not perfect, condition for about 14k. Henry argued that buying the car would give me a 'reserve' of 2k in case things needed doing-a sort of fall-back fund. I admit that, at first, I was sceptical: was he just 'pushing' the old car? But it was a logical descision and ,looking back, one that I did not regret. It comes down to 'trust' and experience, (on Henry's part and mine!)

At the end of the day, everyone bangs on about good cars, bad cars, good dealers and bad BUT you can never measure how good or bad a car (or a woman) is going to be at the beginning of a relationship. It only takes one gearbox failure, one engine rebuild, one unexpected pregnancy to turn an absolute bargain into an owes-you-an-awful-lot and therefore over priced car/relationship.

A recent thread ref an engine build, first the top half and then the bottom end has proves this point.

Depends on your monitor settings but no, I don`t have an issue with the interior. In fact for what it`s worth I think the colour combo is lovely, certainly a change from Guards red or Grand Prix white. Condition wise make sure you see plenty of others first so have something to judge this one by.

A cheap `84/85 Carrera coupe in Guards with black coming on the site Sat / Mon.
