What will they do for 911s after 999?

Somehow 'Porsche 1000' doesn't sound right!

Putting the personal insults to one side for a moment I think there is a very clear reason for using 986/7 notations so everyone knows which car is being referred to as is the case with the 964/993/996/997 911`s.

There is one model number who`s use does bug me though. The 951, or to you and me the 944 Turbo. There are no other 944 Turbos, they only made 1 shape 944 and it came in either 944, 944S, 944S2 or 944 Turbo guise. The next car in the line was called a 968. Possibly the question should have been directed to the 944 brigade not the Boxster boys & girls.

Henry

But Henry there were three different 944 Turbos if my memory serves me correctly, there was the 220bhp original then I thought there was a middle version and finally the 250bhp version. Do these have different factory numbers or are they all the same?

I used to own a 968 Sport (and founded the register in the Porsche Club) but I can't remember if there was a different factory name for the 968 Turbo.

Perhaps this is a relatively new phenomenon for non-911 Porsches?

No Steve, they all use the 951 model code, the power hike from 220 to 250bhp was just a little tickle mid-model.

With the Boxster & 911 there are fundamental reasons for using model codes, not for general chat amongst the great unwashed, but for informed dialogue amongst the educated as there are massive fundamental changes between the models and simply saying it`s a 911 Carrera wouldn`t help.

This thread is really funny; some people get offended so easily! Surely, all threads don't have to be serious and politically correct? I'm sure that Fulham didn't intend to upset anyone.

Now, let me make sure I've got this right:
- People drive a Boxster because they can't afford a 911
- Enthusiasts drive a 986 because they can't afford a 996
- Richer Enthusiasts drive a 987 because they can't afford a 997
...and its got absolutely nothing to do with hairdressing!

It's all 'eventually' to do with hairdressing, unless of course you're a slaphead in which case you probably drive a Ferrari to compensate... oops!

Ahem, I am probably trading the 996 in for another Boxster next year, so that blows that theory out of the water

For me its folks saying 993tt or 996tt, or shortly I guess folks will also use 997tt, is it just in case we get confused with the not in existance production single turbo 993/6/7 turbo models? & if they love the tt designation why not also say 993GT2tt or 996GT2tt

Stop it now its just silly
