CARRERA GT FOR SALE !!
Discussion
Nothing against the 993 GT2, but what is it except a 993RS with a turbo?
As far as build numbers go, once you own a car, less is always more. I don't know whether a build of 1250 CGTs will forever keep a lid on prices, but there are roughly 1400 250SWBs. There are over a thousand 275GTBs. Porsche built 1580 2.7RSs. How many 300SLs did M-B build?. Thousands, IIRC.
For sure the value of CGTs has been hurt because the car came at about the same time as did the Enzo, SLR, Murcielago, Zonda, K'egg, etc. These cars don't all appeal to exactly the same buyers as the CGT does, but there has been enough overlap to distract people and dampen things. In a market that is as subjective and emotional as high-end cars, psychology is everything - which is why Ferraris trade at four times the price of Alfas.

Porsche sells the cars, so it is not their concern...but consider the Carrera Gt if Porsche had a few recent Lemans wins under their belt? I love the Carrera cup, but it is hardly going to help C Gt values.
I think that is what greatly helps '70's Rs and 993 Gt2 values.
As a demographic some of the secondhand values may be helped by old money, a 50-60 year old who has money may have always wanted a 2.7RS, where as a premier league footballer with the same level of disposable would possibly have little interest in a rattly old slow car. They are ready to move on to whatever is due to released next.

Interesting thread.
Unlike the 997S v 996TT thread it is not so relevant to me as no matter how far the CGT prices fall I don't think they will be within my budget anytime soon.
Just to add that the chap that I bought my GT3RS from a year ago bought a CGT shortly afterwards. No idea what he paid and not sure if he still has it, but he was always complaining that it was uncomfortable on the road and the roof was a real pain when fitted, it rattled continuosley. He never seemed overly pleased with it. The last time I spoke to him he said that he was going to 'track the out of it' and then see how he felt about owning it.

PS If they do get to under 100k then I could be tempted.......

With respect to the roof, I've not heard that one before (literally). The pieces fit together perfectly if you assemble them properly.

As I say these are 2nd hand opinions from somebody that I respect. I can't comment on how accurate they are as I haven't been in the car. I can tell you that it left me for dead at both Spa and Bedford. Very fast, great sound.

If we're talking about the same car, as of a month ago he'd put 23,000 miles on it, so he can't be that unhappy with it. He's a darn handy driver too.

No, the car I was referirng to does not belong to an Irishman, but another chap that is a regular on the GT3 circuit. I have not heard similar complaints from the owner of the yellow car.

Some interesting comments on the carrera gt,i want one ASAP ,but will wait until the right car comes along at the right money, We will just have to wait and see what happens to values, I dont think they will drop a huge lot more. Yes they did produce a lot of cars, at least half going to the usa,and a lot for sale over there!
I was asked a question the other day, why do you want one, you have not driven one yet!
Reply, dont need to test drive it, it will be good and special.
The little niggles are normally the character of the car, I remember my 911 speedster and all the balls about the roof leaking, and being a pain to put up and down, who cares ,i wanted a speedster with some character ,and that’s what i got. It only leaked when raining very hard and doing a 100 mph!
The carrera gt should not be compared to other cars, its like no other, in terms of engineering ,performance ,style and class ,which Ferrari do not have. If you also look back into the Porsche history file, Porsche has always produced some thing that little bit different ,that is always more than skin deep. If you are only looking at the shape of the car ,and think its a little understated ,go buy a Ferrari or lambo etc ,as you don’t deserve the quality of the carrera gt!!
Flemke one thing i disagree on though, the 993gt2 is not just a rs with a turbo, its similar, and may be like a fast rs to drive ,but its very special and very rare ,made at weissach by caring hands!

Very true.

Could one not say, however, that a 993 RS CS is "very special and very rare, made at Weissach by caring hands."?
