GTPP (Chris Harris) GT2 SHOOTOUT; ANY IDEAS?
Discussion
I'm not sure what format he plans, keep you posted when I hear back from him. I would imagine the figures taken will be more likely 30-130mph or a range similar to this. Standing starts are very hard on cars and many owners will not be willing to fry clutches/tyres/gearboxes to substantiate these figures. Also it will be more dependent on who is 'harder' on their car than accurate acceleration figures. Same issues for lap times.
Vic don't think we'll be doing lap times as it's down to driver skill on that one, and we don't want the oldest swinger in town with the brightest car to take the honours do we.
Guy, with you on that one, don't particularly want to take my gearbox home in a carrier bag and suspect everyone else feels the same. As you suggested originally in gear times are much more representative.

This started out with a disagreement between myself, 993RSR and Colin at 9M with me saying that the power and torque figures 9M’s dyno gave for the motor they built for 993RSR, whilst being what the Bosch rolling road said, were not comparable with Porsches own numbers and that my (similar) numbers were real Porsche engine dyno power and not “unloaded” rolling road power.
My main reason for saying this is that the turbos being used on the 9M car – standard K24s I understand are not capable of more than about 500hp maximum and certainly not the 540hp/750NM being claimed by 9Ms rolling road.
I believe things have changed slightly as for some reason the car no longer runs a 9M package and has now been breathed on by Weltmiester.
Whilst obviously it would have been nice to line up against the 9M motor I guess my claims are still valid since stock K24s are still being used.
Chris Harris mentioned in one of his write ups that he was intrigued to find out what 550hp would feel like in his 993GT2 which could be gained from bigger injectors, turbos and a remap (not word for word but the gist) – I am guessing this comes from the 9M claims and sort of grates on “fools” like me who have spent ridiculous amounts to get the same power.
So for “our” purposes we need runs from 50mph up to around 170mph – this will get plenty of heat into the engine and show what power is REALLY being made.
It will be fun to line up side by side, but it will be the data logger graphs which will really tell the story – lining up the graphs will tell all.
Apart from the above it will fascinating to see such a gathering of serious metal

Toby, this is meant to be a fun event, not a life changing experience, let's bear this in mind!
I know you have real issue with the power claims, but lets discuss and prove/disprove this when we meet face to face. Are you intending on further modifications to your car before the event, just so we know.

TB - my beetle has standard 24s and when last at the Silverstone emporium chucked out a smidge over 555bhp, no BS.
I don't know how and I don't care, the thing is deranged but I'm convinced your particular psychosis means yon Silver Machine is the beast we 993tt bods aspire to, twin spark an' all...
Having said that, the Fearnmeister who has been assuring me of the beetle's worth for the last few days (during moments of 996GT2 temptation-cum-weakness) has also paid a little attention to I believe Guy R's car and Has told me to simply bow and accept the natural order of things when this car's anvil is flattened.
What a lunatic asylum!

Could change some UK tuner's lives a little
I am intending further mods but can't see them being done in time for the run - I will be 541PS/736NM max

Well, here is where I call BS ! - Not on your part or Weltmiester, you are reading what the chassis dyno tells you, infact you also saw 600lb/ft 816NM which is MILES away from what a K24 can produce.
This is why the run will be soooo interesting. For me there is no real down side (apart from having to eat BIG humble pie), if your UK tuned cars are pulling real numbers then with the components I have in place, some WM/9M tweakery should result in even more automotive violence

K24s aren't the only part of the equation: manual tappets, your old intercooler () and a sh1t load of (frankly on-going) ecu fiddling and other things people with spanners understand far better than I.
I know what the car was like pre and post recent work and it is now in the region of 'fit to mix your drinks,' if not outright supply of the sugar coated cherry and little brolly.
MOD500 certainly waxed extreme lyrical about your beastie and I used to see it at T9 aeons ago where PH & Co would coo in virtually celebratory terms, about it's astonishing capabilities.
2wd as well? My God...

if thats the test wont you need to weigh each car beforehand?
993RSR's 993GT2 and my 2WD 993tt weight is very similar at ~1400kg DIN, he has a BIG cage
a 50kg difference will 'appear' to be roughly 20bhp/20lbft difference at these weights/powers. i guess the 4wd cars weigh a bit more which will obviously make them appear less powerful using acceleration as a measure. anyone wishing to save weight should ask me to drive, i weigh 7 stone. ahem
