This is my first post here so I thought I'd make sure everyone thinks I'm a bragging tt: I have a 997 GT3 on order since a week ago!

Sure hope it's as good to drive as it is on paper!

When does it go on sale in the UK?

It's effectively on sale now.

Although the UK launch is likely to be June, with the first cars being delivered to their lucky owners from Sept., allocations are likely to limited.

So, with 5-Star reviews in today's Autocar and AutoExpress, now might be the time to hot-foot down to the dealer with a £10k deposit.

Can't help getting excited about it.swore to myself not this time, depreciation bound to be a nightmare,it can't be as good as the 996GT3RS,front looks silly etc etc.But it's no good...I gotta have one.

It will be a far better road car but will not have the track potential. With cups fitted, its only 6 seconds quicker around the ring thank the standard Mk2 996. That is dissapointing, cup tyres make a huge difference.

I think that this will be a great car for the driver who wants to do the occasional track day. For the driver who is doing a lot of track work, I would wait for the RS version.

Great news for 996 GT3 owners though, If Cups are standard fittment on the new GT3, they will be a lot easier to get hold of and hopefully a lot cheaper..

Then again, if it's just lap times you're after buy a Radical.

Fair point. But the GT3 was originally a road focussed track car. I was jugding the car by that criteria. I'm not sure where the new car fits. It looks much more like a road car. To me that is a shame.

Yeah I know what you're saying Steve and I've been giving it some thought myself. No matter what angle I approach it, 6 seconds is pretty meagre. What with cup tyres, the better ride and the more powerful engine you would expect more.

I thought I read that the 997GT3 was 11 secs faster?

But surely the point is this; the new GT3 will satisy those customers who will want, or need, to use it as a road car, whereas the forthcoming RS is likely to be far more track focussed.

Is it 11 secs? I must confess I really don't know! That sounds more like it.

That's not even close to bragging matey - bragging is saying you've got one of the very first cars coming in Sept........which I have. White with full clubsport pack methinks. Sorry to burst your bubble! Lets make it worse - I've currently got an AMV8 and before that had a 997S. Bye

Yep - its 11 secs. Can't believe some of the comments I'm reading. 6 secs would be good, 11 is brilliant. Don't believe me? Take a current car to the 'ring then employ someone to improve it so that it's 11 secs. faster - you'll find it ain't that simple.

Why are you all wittering on about 6 or 11 secs. Lets be honest I bet there aren't many of you who could get anywhere near the Porsche testers times anyway. Come on be HONEST. Whats really important is the experience the car offers. I can bury even full race Porsches in my Radical but it's not actually that much fun.

Sammy, you have hit the nail on the head. The Ring times are posted by the likes of Walter Rohrl - most of us haven't a hope in hell to match it so why get so hung up on these lap times? It's irrellevant.

Absolutely - went to the 'ring recently and watched the 'ring taxi M5 driving round the outside of supposedly 'quick' Porsches - and it was four up! Get a GT3 because you can - I am - but let's not kid ourselves guys!

To me, the past two GT3's have been resonably compromised as a road car. If the 997 is a more accomplished road car yet the same on track I think thats definately a step forward in the right direction.

However, i have a feeling it is/will be a more accomplished road car AND better on track....

My 10k is staying put for the RS, otherwise I'll get the GT3 now, then wish I had gone for the RS as and when that comes out.
