Bullsh*t
Try a REAL 944 Turbo Cup. You will be ashamed to own a 964RS after this.

I'm sure the 944 Cup is light and powerful, but I said '911' in my original post. And even a 944 can only be fettled so much. An Ultima will always be a G-string to the 944's Jockey Y-fronts!!!
I must admit to always fancying the 968 Turbo S, but they never made enough of them.
Domster - presume you've seen that one of the kit car mags (can't remember which one but it's a current issue) has just started an Ultima build project?
Sorry if that was a bit O/T for the Porsche page - just trying to be helpful so you take the plunge with the Ultima and in your desire to get cracking offer me your RS at a knock down price. There we are - back on topic!

Hi Chris,
Haven't forgotten about your interest, just looks likely that my Porsche tech may buy it from me as his own project car...
Cheers for Ultima info. I know about the Which Kit feature. The guy, called 'Detail' or 'Finickerty' or something, even commended PH's very own Stig for his wonderful build website. Says something when journos start looking up PH for advice etc.!
Cheers

Indeed, but you can't say that "only a 911 can blablabla"

Re indeed, it will be a G-string to any other car actually
What is the point of Ultima in this subject?

Err...and your point is?
I had actually considered a BMW 6 series - but I didn't want to look like a drug dealer
Seriously though - they are nice looking cars and nearly met all my requirments...
But I am very pleased with my S2 and it looks like a proper sportscar too, so there

I do fear the written word of the mightily wordy deristrictor, if I have indeed upset him by insulting the street cred of his Lex'i partridge-mobile.
Mainly because his wordy retort would contain so much anicent old english wordage, that I would have to go to the British libuary for several months to research the entire works of 16th centuary playwrites just to understand what he has just called me.
I await my fate of wounding by literature, with a backbone of iron, and pray the gods bless me with the insight and fortitude to understand his inevitable pro Lex'i stance

Slight off topic - Dom, if your interested in building an Ultima check out this nice site - Ultima GTR Info Site This poor guy is building his Ultima in a TINY garage
As for the BMW 6 Series....Another car I lusted about at one stage (still do a wee bit) but like AJ I realised that the drug dealer image is not big and not clever

Thanks Photek - CJ is a mate of mine and only lives a few miles away, so he will be a very handy partner in crime!
My point is that I am not a complete 911-phile as you would have the forum believe. I have owned two 944s, both good examples, and driven 968s.
Unlike you, it seems, I have a fairly open mind re Porsche ownership.

There are many things a 911 can do that a 944 will never be able to do, and vice versa, Thom. Some people prefer the sound of a flat six to the drone of a four cylinder engine. Get over it.

And what was the point of you bringing a 944 Cup car into the thread last time around?
The only reason I have ever mentioned Ultimas on this forum is when people have asked me what I am going to replace a 964RS with. You have been on this forum long enough to know that a certain 'bandwidth' in banter is allowed, and even encouraged.

I do not question people's liking but you certainly shouldn't throw a 911 let alone an Ultima in a thread which point is the 944, especially to write things in the likes of "only a 911 can...".

Indeed, but this doesn't bring much to this thread.

I don't see why "open mindedness" and "Porsche ownership" should be both compulsory.
Look Dom, I have dramatically reduced my postings in the PH Porsche forum, not only because I have important things to do during the day but also because you 911 guys have a good time together talking about your mobiles. As such I feel a complete foreigner and I'm sure you understand I have nothing to bring to your own motoring adventures.
So please don't come up with your "only a 911 can..."'s in a very rare 944 thread. That's a bit hurting really
Hey Thom lighten up a bit - we're all friends here, and everyone's entitled to their opinions... even if they find it hard to admit the superiority of the cars with the engine in the correct place
The main gripe people seem to have about the 944 is the relative lack of power compared to the 911 variants (something that Porsche could have addressed, but didn't because it would have shown up their more exclusive model) and the comparatively uninspiring engine note of an inline 4 (even if it was the biggest displacement 4 cylinder of its time)
How would people have felt if Porsche had produced a twin turbo flat6 944RS version? Would the 944/968 still have remained in relative obscurity?
Has anyone ever modified a 944 with a flat6?

It wouldn't fit, the engine bay is way too narrow.
And it would sound like a bag of nails
Btw a friend is currently building a 3.0l Turbo (IMO the car the "4 cylinders" should always have been) and expects around 350 reliable bhp.
Check out rennlist.com in the next future for further information...8)

Nope all the measurements have been done by a workmate of mine- (very Porsche experienced) and he is certain it will fit. Why you would do it with the power a 944Turbo engine can produce or the beautifly balanced power of a 240bhp 968 engine available I have no idea tho....
Oh also I'm now working with a fella who is shoveing a 4.2ltr rover V8 into his 944 at the moment completely mad I feel but still at least it will be different
Thom, please chill out
Your comments are getting too personal and you have been a member long enough to know that this is against the spirit of these forums.
Threads are meant to evolve, and that is part of the reason why people read, enjoy and contribute to them.
The Porsche forum isn't split into Water Cooled/Air Cooled for a very good reason - because it will encourage alienation and cliquism. Everyone can champion their own car, or taste in cars, in good humour and good faith anywhere on these forums.
A 911 has unique virtues, just as a 944 has, or a Boxster has. 911 owners don't complain when you 'hi-jack' a thread with tales of a 944 Cup car, so you shouldn't object if your 944 thread gets 'hi-jacked' by mention of a 911.
If you want to start another 'very rare' 944 thread, then there is nothing to stop you. As it happens, the thread you started here hardly consisted of much in the way of content - appearing to the cynically-minded to be a round of slow-hand applause for PistonHeads having featured your beloved 944 in an article, as opposed to the 911.
This thread will now close. The current content re modifying a 944 will move to a new thread.
