Porsche GT3 RS revealed

Stuttgart reveals more about the road-legal racer

Porsche has revealed more details about the forthcoming 911 GT3 RS.

As in the GT3, the road-legal racer's 3.6-litre boxer engine generates 415bhp at 7,600 rpm with the redline at 8,400rpm, bringing the power output per litre of engine capacity to a highly impressive 115.3bhp.

But the RS is faster because of its close-ratio six-speed transmission with a single-mass flywheel and lower overall weight, the engine revs up even more freely.

This enables the 911 GT3 to sprint from zero to 62mph per hour in 4.2 seconds -- one-tenth of a second faster than the GT3. It takes 13.3 seconds to hit to 125mph (200kph). Maximum speed is 193.75mph.

It features ceramic brakes (PCCB) as standard, uses the same wide body as Carrera 4 / 4S but with a different rear wing.

It'll be 20Kg lighter than GT3 at 1,375Kg, thanks to the use of an adjustable carbon fibre wing, a plastic rear lid and a lightweight plastic rear window.

The GT3 RS will carry a price tag of about £94,000, some £14,000 more than the GT3.

Porsche's new microsite with more info is here.

Stunning is the only word for this car. It looks and sounds absolutely glorious. My left kidney is going on ebay...

I dunno, 14k extra seems a bit rich somehow.

Yep, me too...I was once in for a 993turbo 4wd but they told me at their racing porche center, if you like to be involved with the car you better wait and save your money for a GT3 and sort likes that was a honest man! but all people at that porsche center are "real" porsche freaks and not salesman in the way of entering a porsche showroom in some expensive city! they are from Lammertink racing Enter Holland...
The only porsche I owned that came a bit near to a RS was a 911 carrera 2 with a 3.8RS engine in the back and RS options(made like one)
Those cars(GT3 and porsche's) are proven to be "reliable" and fast on track and great involvements to the driver...One day I hope to owne one for a while

A GT3 spec'd up with some of the RS standard eqpt (Club Sport/bucket seats and PCCB's) would cost over £88k.

20kg lighter - I wonder if the average buyer will be slim, toned, and lightweight too, or lardy overweight fatbottoms? In the (probably more likelly) latter case where is the advantage then?

Because it will still weigh less than a normal GT3 with their lardy ar$e in? When they are bored of it on a diet they can go and drop another 10kg

Looking at the spec sheet, PCCB is an option.

In terms of specs this does not particularly exciting taking the regular GT3 as a reference. Proudly mentioning 20kg less weight is close to being embarassing IMHO . However, the engineer behind the RS claims it's a few seconds faster around the Ring than the regular GT3, so let's see . What I definitively like is the organge colour. Going back to the 70's 911 race models, want one sooo badly

So, I'm sitting in my new, White, 997GT3 ClubSport - £86k, Non PCCB - and the salesman tries to entice me with a £98k RS (there's bound to be options). After telling me it's 20kgs lighter he's going to be a bit stumped for extra ammo. to pursuade me with isn't he? I think Porsche have shot themselves in the foot using white for their GT3 brochures aswell. I can see me either keeping my current RS or flogging it if the GT3 turns out to be good - what I can't see is going to the new RS - unless there's more to be revealed...........

This colour scheme reminds me of the livery of the 'Jägermeister' DTM racer or something. I believe it too was black & orange. Anybody have a picture?

:quote: uses the same wide body as Carrera 4 / 4S :quote:

why use a wide body? i assume it's heavier that the narrow bodied c2 and isn't the idea to lose weight?

Looking at the spec sheet it doesn't seem that compelling does it :

www.porschecentrumeindhoven.nl/porsche_centrum_eindhoven_actueel_nieuws/997_gt3_rs_technische_vergelijking.pdf

Doesn't even seem to offer much more than the 996 RS? I too am wondering if there is more to be revealed.
