RE: Porsche GT3 RS revealed
Discussion
This car, like it's forebears will encorporate mods not detailed in the spec sheet.
It is being to built to homologate a competitior to GT race cars from Ferrari and Corvette, not to sting a few hundred street car customers.
It will be faster round a track than the stock car, be sure.
It will feel different to the stock car, wheather some will appreciate these differences is a matter for personal choice. It does not give those individuals the moral authority to decry the product. Let's leave that position to Ken Livingstone,
Porsche aren't forcing GT3 punters to buy it, they are offering a choice.
Viva the free world where Stalanists are not free to tell us what is good for us.

but think about the fact that fewer cars will be sold thus RARITY hence FUTURE " CLASSIC" now we are talking....
Sorry mate. Heard that all before with the 996 GT3 RS

If I understand you right I think you are objecting to those views and suggesting that we should not be allowed to express them or 'decry the product'as you put it. That's a touch Stalanistic in itself old boy.

Au contraire- It is fact that choice is available, there cannot be legitimate protest against choice. What we are reading is small minded wingeing.
''£80k is fair for car but hey £95 that's outrageous'' is what is being said and that is nonsense. If folks were saying this is a premium I cannot see value in, then that is wholly fair, That is not the sort of wording we read. It is implied by many that Porsche are 'legging 'people over or that those tempted are stupid. Totally unfair on Porsche and other people.
We should pride ourselves on reasoned and sensible debate, not 'broo hah hah'
And, lest I appear high handed please bear in mind my position as someone who could not afford one quater of these prices.

lsp said:I'm sure the other guys who are talking "nonsense" as you put it can respond for themselves. For my part it's not about the amount of money - £85 or £95K or whatever - it's whether what's being charged is good value or not. I'm lucky enough to be able to afford these cars quite comfortably but I'm not going to hand my money over for something if I think it's poor value. Which is why I might indeed say £80k is fair but £95k is outrageous.

Like most of you, I'm very surprised Porsche hasn't gone further with the RS.
For a company with such engineering talent and given the niche market position/low production volume they could and should have...
Shaved at least 100kg's off the weight
Increased power and torque by at least 5%
Fitted a sequential or PDK box
Wonder if they've done anything innovative to the suspension?
From what I've heard so far this is a triumph of style over substance.

lsp said:Correct me if I'm wrong - and as a self confessed pedant I'm sure you will - but didn't you introduce the word outrageous to this topic.............. Off for a hot chocolate and a lie down now.
Fairly put Sammy, but I am a pedant and feel we should save 'outrage' for teh outrageous, this is not the Sun or th eMirror we are reading, nor is it the hyperbole of Shakespere.
Cheers

Glad to see Porsche are continuing their policy of raping the RS heritage to extract maximum dosh out of punters. Not even a hint of subtlety this time about it. Sorry but this is even more of an accountants motor than the last one and yer mugs if any of you stump up for one.
"Look, look Mr Punter, it is even in classic '73 2.7RS Orange, therefore it *must* be a genuine modern RS, see?"
Come on, someone else must be seeing this argument by now? They *saved* 20kgs? What did they do...chuck out the PCM and the handset?
This is the sort of outrage nonsense I was referring to.

PCCB is a bonus indeed and does go part way to justify the cost I guess. pplus you are reducing the unpsrung weight of the car which is really the art at the end of the day and so difficult to do over std parts.
I still think they are asking a lot but then 20k is a fair amount to me too!
get a 996 RS and take it to manthey to have some real fun with the $$ saved??
still the 997 should be an evolution over the 996 so lets see when the proof is in the pudding and the thing is given a hammering by a few pundits & billy bunters!!
