RE: Porsche GT3 RS revealed
Discussion
Very difficult to drive one before buying new - if you're a serious prospect, you'll have your deposit down already. Didn't manage to drive either of my previous two cars before buying them. Would have liked to, but the choice wasn't there. Anybody know a dealer that will be running one as a demonstrator?
Your point was that an rs isn't worth the extra money and you can't seem to understand it when somebody points out that, just perhaps, you need to drive it before coming to such a conclusion? no point justifying yourself by claiming everybody has a right to air their opinion, tell me something i don't know.

Interestingly, the US site mentions a carbon hood, but this isn't mentioned on the Euro site. They seem to not get the lexan rear side and rear windows though.
Got a nice glossy pic of the car in the post today and can confirm that PCCB is a cost option. Retail according to the letter is 95k + options.

Yeah I got the pic.
I'm thinking about arranging a ride/drive in a boggo 997 GT3 and seeing how raw it will feel and trying to extrapolate from there about what the RS should feel like before really sitting down and considering.
Anyone getting it for sure then?
So the air con is a no cost option - so not in the weight figures, but most will put it in - probably best part of 20kg there. The carbon buckets as standard in the GT3RS (thus already in the weight figure) versus most GT3s as an option - again how heavy? At least adding carbon brakes will shave some weight off.

just got back from spa to find a sexy picture of a lovely GT3 RS in orange through my door, glad i gave them my ten grand a few months ago so i can be one of the first to show off what will be the most desirable porsche.
I am taking mine in orange and speccing PCCB to cave a few more kilos.(providing they confirm they will be covered under warranty)
Cheers

Got my letter and pics. too. Have decided to move my order back a bit - was my OPC's first one -because it's going to clash with arrival of my boggo GT3. I'll live with GT3 for a while and then decide. Fully specced RS is going to nudge £100K against similar spec. GT3 at £90K. For wider track and revised suspension, different gearbox, flywheel and other bits and pieces plus possible rarity maybe it'll be worth it? Got to be orange though.

Gearbox is the same as far as I can tell. If you check the pdf spec sheet I linked earlier in this thread, the ratios are the same as the 997 GT3. I think they are pulling their different to the base model (i.e. 997(S), or previous model trick...

The 996GT3 was built to incorporate the suspension pick up points and geometry from the AMLmans racing cars which needed to be homolgated for FIA GT racing. It is a sustantially different car to the MK2, which in itself is a very good car but the 996RS was built as a homologated platform to win motor races and has far more development potenial. It was not built not to apiese enthusuasts or as a cynical marketting excercise. The 996RS suspension was carried over to the standard 997GT3. There will be a similar reason for building the 997RS but From reading the spec sheets It isn't clear at the moment. If it is merely a wider track then the cynics out there may have a point. At it's launch, the differences between the 996RS and the MK2 were played down. There was no mention of engine hardware modifications, ECU differences or the full extent of the suspension differences. I suspect that the 997RS will be similarly played down this time around.
Doesn't help you guys who are looking to put 10k down on a new car now though....
Feeling lucky?
