You should find something close to that spec if you keep looking.

Personally, I'd still prefer manual. I lived in London for 15 years and drove a succession of manual (and one tiptronic) 911s as my everyday car.

On the 996 the clutch is light, gear selection slick, the ratios flexible and the engine oozes torque, so you wouldn't be changing gear all that much. And, of course, on the move and out of town the 6-spd is a real gem.

Have you driven one yet? By the sound of it, you don't particularly want the car for hooning around in. The C4S is a good car - it's a bit soft (esp. in tip guise) for a lot of people, but so long as it does what you want it to do, then no probs.
Would suggest you get a drive in various other models before you take the plunge - there are a good few people who have bought, only to sell within 6 months (to much financial loss!)
Good luck with the search, and whatever you end up with, you need to get the Porsche warranty.

Dont buy one,it has none of the upsides of a Porsche and most of the downsides..i.e lack of grunt and 4wd...

tks have driven a few c2 and c4 tips and would like manual but everytime i drive in london now its painful so for everyday use just seem logical vrs the sacrifice for the odd open road day + like the c4s looks but must admit havent driven manual

insurance on C4s is higher than a c4 or a C2 because of the body kit though..

I bought a C4S (tip) for pretty much the same reasons. Tip boxes get a lot of slaggin' on this forum but ignore it. The box works well for me given the type of driving i have to do. You still get a massive amount of enjoyment in the car, both in auto and manual mode.

My main buying decisions were based on the fact that i thought the C4S looked so much better than the c2. I was also told by many porsche fans that the C4S should hold its value better than a c2 - from what i've seen this looks to be true but i won't know for sure until the day i have to sell it.

At the end of the day buy what you want and feel comfortable with.

I took the plunge last Christmas and went the C4S route. I have a manual but given your town requirements I would have no problem going with the Tip. Every time I get it out of the garage and go to shut the door I admire the rear end of it as the best ever on a 911. Do it, you won't regret it - but make sure you get the PSE!

In response to "where did you get your ones ?".....I built up a list of the Independents like the one you mention mainly through stumbling over them in Autotrader and then kept a watch on their websites. I had a set of options I wanted on the car and PCM was one of them, I think I would have been disappointed had it not come with it. Only other thing I would add is that you have to get the Porsche extended warranty if it doesn't come with one.

I bought mine from OPC Edinburgh 2 years ago an 02 model. Meridian metallic, manual. I would definitely recommend the manual and a sports exhaust. This was my first 911 and I absolutely love it. We have a 3 year old and he goes in the porsche baby seat. I tired the tip but didn't like it, maybe I am old fashioned as I prefer sports cars to be manual - you should try both and see what you prefer

For tyre cost nobody has managed to beat black circles.

A mate has just bought a very good C4S around your pirce level from a specialist in Edinburgh called KENNY DUNN who carries a lot of good clean stock I am sure he used to work for Glanvarrigill at one point.

Hi all,

Just joined up to PH, mainly to get some info on 911s.
Was going to post a similar thread to this, but as it's up here, I thought I'd just tag along if that's ok with the thread starter.

Got an S2000 at the moment which I've had from new for over 3 years. Loved every minute of it.
The curious part of me wondered what a 911 would be like to own and drive, however.

Can anyone tell me what the differences are in driving a C2 and a C4S. Also, is there much of a difference between the C4 and C4S? I'm looking at ones in the £45-50K range too.

Has anyone come from an S2000? What are the positives and negatives compared to the S2000?

Thanks in advance for replies, and do tell me to start a new thread if I need to,

San.
