Hi all,

Got an S2000 at the moment which I've had from new for over 3 years. Loved every minute of it.
The curious part of me wondered what a 911 would be like to own and drive, however.

Can anyone tell me what the differences are in driving a C2 and a C4S. Also, is there much of a difference between the C4 and C4S? I'm looking at ones in the £45-50K range too.

San.

There are slight differences, but they are somewhat subjective. You would need to drive them yourself to make a judgement. Personally, I prefer the C2.

Hi mate...yes I do!

It's odd, but there are some diametrically opposed views on the s2ki site, and so I thought I'd get some opinions from guys who've owned the cars for a while.

Hi all,

Just joined up to PH, mainly to get some info on 911s.
Was going to post a similar thread to this, but as it's up here, I thought I'd just tag along if that's ok with the thread starter.

Has anyone come from an S2000? What are the positives and negatives compared to the S2000?

Thanks in advance for replies, and do tell me to start a new thread if I need to,

San.

Hi San, I had one of the first S2000s in the country and hated it, so I probably can't give you a balanced view.

Certainly drive both, I found the C2 felt lighter, and I've never wanted for any extra traction in my four months of ownership. C4S has been commented on earlier in this thread.

It's much more refined than the S2000 especially in C4S guise, and can do both relaxed cruiser and sports car. This may or may not be a positive, if you looking for something a little 'rawer' the 993 might be a better bet.

You don't have to thrash it to press on. Space wise the C2 can carry quite a bit, it's my main family car with two young kids.

I'd always dreamt of owning a 911, and owning one hasn't sullied that dream.

Woogie on here has recently come from S2000 to 996, so might be worth asking him.

Thanks.

Is it quite easy to buy from an independent and then get the Porsche warranty afterwards? Or are they quite difficult when it comes to this?

Yes, quite a few independents offer this option.

I bought mine privately and it already had the OPC warranty on it, which you can transfer. You can add the warranty to any private sale following an inspection, provided it hasn't had it's 9th Birthday, and I think less than 125,000 miles.

I bought mine from OPC Edinburgh 2 years ago an 02 model. Meridian metallic, manual. I would definitely recommend the manual and a sports exhaust. This was my first 911 and I absolutely love it. We have a 3 year old and he goes in the porsche baby seat. I tired the tip but didn't like it, maybe I am old fashioned as I prefer sports cars to be manual - you should try both and see what you prefer

For tyre cost nobody has managed to beat black circles.

A mate has just bought a very good C4S around your pirce level from a specialist in Edinburgh called KENNY DUNN who carries a lot of good clean stock I am sure he used to work for Glanvarrigill at one point.

Yip - I just bought my 02 C2 from Kenny and was impressed with his stock. He was manager at the OPC for a few years after selling his previous indie garage (can't remember the name). He knows his stuff, his stock if top notch but his prices are on the strong side. He can get a deal for OPC warrantly through Glanvarrigill, if you waive his included 6m warranty and give him £500 he'll organise the inspection and a years OPC cover.

look at his web site www.kennydunn.co.uk or call him on 0131 475 9111 & see if he has the car for you, if he does well worth £80 on easyjet. I will be supprised if you are dissapointed.
he does get guys from down south buying his cars.

& no I do not work for him.
