40kmh over the limit is loss of license and a ban in france for 14days, all you do is take a passenger and insure them just in case.

they have confiscated cars from speeding offenders in holland for years though, there was a 20 year old with a 360 cuaght speeding twice and the third time they took it of him, was his dads car too!! i would have killed him. they sell it at auction and the money goes to the police.

I wouldnt be suprised if they do it in france too

Here you go from the other thread..... French law states....la confiscation du véhicule dont le prévenu s'est servi pour commettre l'infraction, s'il en est propriétaire, en cas de dépassement de la vitesse autorisée de 50km/h ou plus.

Tranlated means 50kph over the limit and your car is confiscated!!!

To balance things a little bit, it the the FIRST time ever than a car has been effectively confiscated following a speeding offence.

In fairness to the French law, everything single Gumball, Canonball, Whateverball goes through the country every year - and not exactly discreetly, very much all over the media and so on.

The Gumball even boast that over 500,000US$ of fines were issued, and mostly the participants could not care less.

I think the judge for the first time ever exercised the option offered by the law to effectively confiscate the vehicle as an example for future ****ballers streaming past at 250kmh with race car livery and all on public roads.

I too think it is extreme, particularly for the 993TT caught only at 190kmh, but one need to understand the judge's intention.

Simon, are you coming to Donington Tuesday night for a warm up

What's happening at Donny on tuesday Paul?

Trackday, 5-8.30pm

Do you have a site address with all the details?

....are there going to be a few exotic P cars there? Is it open to spectators. I work just 5 miles away and i've recently put my 996c2 up for sale to change to a turbo/gt2. The GT2's are vey difficult to find in a garage and have a look around. If any are coming i would really appreciate the chance to take a look and pick the brains of the owners. If there arn't any coming it would be a good excuse to spend an hour admiring the sights and sounds of some rare Porsche metal.

There is a massive change of attitude in France regarding speeding. The French refer to driving on the autoroute as "Sarkozy" style, ie keeping to the speedlimits as there will be a lot of controlling when the intifada on the Autoroute du Soleil sets in on 1st of August when everybody will head towards the Cote d'Azur. I am setting off tomorrow night towards the Continent and will not go faster than the speedlimit this time - having been warned.
