There arent loads of tt's out there or you would have bought one?

no i havn't bought one cos i havn't found EXACTLY what i want for my 55k. perhaps "loads" is an overstatement - perhaps "several" is a btter description?
Trust me 90% of them will be shit..everyone has talked the tt into 'cheap' buying zone so lots of people now looking..all of them getting fed up with looking at rubbish cars...what do people expect,if you slash prices quality goes down coz its not worth looking after it..

so is yours one of the crap ones then Kay?

Or is your garage full of cotton wool and you lick it clean every weekend?
Virtually yes and its perfect otherwise i wouldnt have bought it.

what is the spec of yours Kay? and how much did you pay for it if you don't mind me asking? As you have said above you did a lot of test drives so knowing what you have / paid will give me an idea if i'm being unrealistic in my search...

Manual(boring silver) 2001 ..paid 51k privately 18 months ago with 18 k miles..most of the cars at dealers were between 6-8 k more and rubbish..i have kept it perfect,washed/polished weekly..serviced etc..and it drives perfectly..i bought it with fsh..no warranty and it has suffered zero problems in that time..hence its a rare car coz its cherished.

be careful - he's likely to give you a 'dealer adjusted' script - before trying to sell you it at a 10k markup since thats what dealers do anyway, and he'll spend more on preperation and coffee than them so you should pay for it...

no worries. just keen to know what to expect as i'm only at the start of my hunt and it might save me a few wasted test drives. i know that any porsche is about personnal taste but as said above i do want my cake and eat it on this purchase..

i'm after:

02 or 03 seal / artic / polar
FSH
black / light grey leather
manual
electric / heated / memory comfort seats
sat nav and phone
rear park assist
cruise - would be nice
sunroof - def
must be 2 owners or under
must be 20,000 or under
porsche warranty
VERY clean and tidy car.

my budget is 55k but could stretch for a real clean and tidy example. so far all the car's i've seen on the net are "almost" there but not 100% match. am i being unrealistic on the above vs my budget?

I think your budget is ok..but to find the exact match will be hard..i didnt choose silver through choice but quality of the car...you are buying a 4 year old car that someone had to spec to your choice, look after perfectly and hardly use...

This car can be cheaper and the wheels swapped back for std ones if need be.

You will not find a cleaner TT.....they don't call me the "Garage Queen" for nothing.

As Kayc states....you cannot afford to be fussy over spec when you're buying a 4 yr old car. Condition is king.

Your budget is spot on, I have been looking at TTs for 12 months now and have test driven 5 or so. My search is on temporary hold due to birth of Adam Jnr so waiting for bonus in new year. Contrary to kayc I looked at 15 or so examples and all were in good nick. This is the most I will ever want to spend on a car and I want to keep it for a while so I am happy to be very patient to get the right spec (which is way fussier than yours). Also if it takes me 6 months to find the right one I will be paying £3k less (or buying 6 months newer with less miles), have saved up more deposit. There was one for sale on PH which ticked 95% of my boxes so gutted it didn't hit the market 6 months later. But there will be others and increasingly so as TT owners go from 996 to 997.

By the way to make your search easier all 02/03 cars come with sunroofs and leccy memory seats as std (unless NCO sports seats were selected). Good luck.

I was offered a decent condition 01 plate on private sale for 40 a few weeks back, bassalt black, black leather, chrome coloured plastic pack etc.

said that was the best offer he was offered on trade in so if I wanted it .. .. .. ..

unfortunatly im poor, so poor I may even move to wales.

let me know the spec of the car plus what price your considering for the car with std wheels.

I would have to disagee over being fussy and age. I've found cars that on paper tick almost all my boxes except say heated seats for example so unless they are rear crap cars then perhaps i will need to be patient or lower my wish list.

agreed, be fussy of both spec AND condition. 4 years is nothing and many of these cars are pampered without consideration of expense as anyone who could afford it new could afford to do so. The TT came highly specced and you are looking for the commonest of colours so there will be plenty of choice of nice examples (although like me it will be 50% frustrating trying to avoid the awful tips)

....moving to Wales will make you infinitely richer Gary....especially with all those wonderful driving roads in the valleys (bet it's a while since you last saw a hill living in Lincoln laugh)

40k for a straight tt is worth a think. Shocking what dealers are offering on a trade in. This is what drives the prices down not people on forums discussing their shortcomings/isolated horror stories.

Good luck with the hunt. Hold out for exactly what you want. You have a very decent budget so should get up with a minter.

Although I have posted lots in favour of 2wheel drive, someone I know has the most perfect spec Turbo S he paid £85k for earlier in the year. I am keeping my fingers crossed (nay praying) that 1)he keeps hold of it for two years 2) gets a very large trousering from his OPC come trade in time and 3) that I have enough income to make him an offer he couldnt refuse (which would be about £2.50 above the OPC trade in price)

....i'm doing the same thing...holding out for my ideal spec as i don't intend changing it again for a long while. Prices will soften further during the winter months esp with more 997tt and 997gt3's hitting the road.
