1. 911 GT1 (1996) aka the Van - A race car with a tax disc, as hardcore as a road legal vehicle can be.

2. Carrera GT - Greatest supercar yet made (In my opinion at least). Not as big numbers as the Veyron, but that's not the point.

3. 911 Turbo Type 993 - Way ahead of it's time.

4. 911 GT (aka GT2) Type 993 - Quite simply awesome.

5. Boxster 2.5/2.7 Type 986 - The car that plucked Porsche out of financial dire straits. Might not have been the most capable car, but it was the best in business terms.

Nah, mine is the best! (Even though it is a mere 944, which has twice been named here as the worst ... )

Just a practical question, what constitutes 'best'?

Have you driven the GT1? If so, any chance you could describe the experience(s)?
No, I have not.
Don't know anyone who owns one, and when they've been for sale have not requested a drive, as the truth is that I wouldn't buy one.

the same magazine said it was indeed the new CGT successor to be also named the GT1, not the older GT1 pictured below, but yes your right it is only an artist impression but it looks to be one helluva car.

I take it that you were proposing the mooted car, not the original, for your top 5/6?

I'm sceptical that P. will build such a thing.
The only scenario that I can imagine is if there were some homolgation purpose, such as there was for the original GT1.
As P. seem to be aiming for the closed-top successor to LMP1 (starting in '08, is it?), would they also aim to produce something for the new GT1 Class? Possible, I suppose, but then they would be building LMP1, GT1 and GT2 (new RSR).

Apart from that, P. are not in the habit of making grossly over-powered wagens simply to get stupid vmax bragging rights.
Also, it's difficult to think how they could make money off it, as they didn't make that much with the CGT, of which they really struggled to sell the 1270.

Roland Kussmaul told me that he and Rohrl believed strongly that it is pointless if not unwise to build a road car with more than about 600 bhp.

Hello Flemke

yes I was meaning the original and google images gave me a GT1 I put it up and then realised it was the proposed artists impression picture from the magazines.

as for the mooted car coming, I guess you will certainly know more than me, I just read it in a web magazine so holds no wieght at all might as well have wrote it myself !

Oh yes... P. will one day win all classes simultaneously at LM. Porsche race not to win, but to dominate.

Er...I think Porsche race to make money.

Certainly that is true for the boss, which is why there hasn't been a factory effort for years, despite their bulging bank account.

The Motorsport boys are different, but they don't call the shots.

Race Cars:-

1. 917/30
2. 935 K3
3. 911 GT1
4. 917 Long tail
5. 911 Carrera RS 2.7 Lightweight

Road cars:-

1. CGT
2. 959
3. 996 GT2
4. 996 GT3
5. 986 Boxster 2.5 – I know that many will lump this into the 924/914 category but that, to my mind is purely snobbery. No it isn’t fast, barely modern GTI quick in a straight line, but it opened the door, and still does, to 1,000’s of potential Porsche buyers who will suddenly start to consider further Porsche ownership of years to come.

It also attracts those who never considered ownership thanks to the ‘Daddy drives a Porsche’ / Framps effect.

Isn't there a man that sells carpets that owns one. Harry someone. Saw him at Spa on one of the Wheeltorque outings. Thought he would have been in the Paddock Club?
