Extended warranty

I just bought a 1999, 996. Just out of warranty. I've been offered an extended one: 4 yrs for $1,700 (£1,100). The general opinion seems to be that early 996's come with a legion of potential problems so it may be worth taking it? Alternatively it's 4 years and 40,000 miles old so any issues should have come out and been dealt with under the factory warranty. Thoughts?

99 cars are better than 97's or 98's but at £275 per year, I'd get the warranty.

I take it the warranty is from Porsche ?
