Canine analogy ;

Porsche: Sleek thoroughbred Greyhound, purebred, fast and stylish, sleek with smooth performance.

TVR: Rottwieller on steroids fed a constant diet of Nitrous Oxide and extreme sports videos.

I usually add something deadly dull when a thread is heading for extinction....

but I've had a theory all along....

Anglo-Traffic culture: get in, fire up Tiv, brooooom, shoot off, meet queue, listen to luvverly noise again, find gap, squirt like hell, meet queue, listen to luvverly noise, find gap, squirt like hell, and so on. Max Wow factor required from takeoff. Brit perception: Oh Boy!

Autobahn culture: get in, fire up Porker, quietly, quietly, no queue, onto autobahn, reach 150 mph. Max Wow factor THEN, but not required from takeoff. Brit perception: Oh God.

JSG quite right. Both great....

true, McNab. On a business trip in Germany I expect to average around 90 mph.

Walter, you mean you AVERAGE 90 mph start to stop? That probably includes a fair bit of city driving before you get to the autobahn, and after you leave it too.

Envy? You bet!! Surely you wouldn't want to live here?

WEEELLL ... Truth be told, not always, sometimes. Congestion is not as bad, no speed limits, and many modern industrial estates are close to the autobahns - keeps the lorries out of the towns. The rest is careful planning, such as being prepared to set off at 4.00 am, have breakfast somewhere at 7.30 am, and hit the first customer at 08.00 am. Sometimes have a kip en route. Not very enjoyable. The roads are just too crouded anywhere now.

In UK I tend to work to the same principle. For instance, business in York. Left the evening before at 09.00 pm, 300 miles, 4 hours - work that our for yourself

90% Motorway? Steady 85 on M1? If more, admit it!

spot on - 85 is all I dare, based on the assumption that if caught I'll just get a wrap on the knuckles. Having a german car and km/h speedo, I go 140, which technically is 86. If you want to go fast, put cruise control on AND LEAVE IT ON.

Yeah, if it wasn't for numptys pulling out in front of you... or even worse, idiots overtaking you then slowing down to less than your speed!

I tend to hover around the 99mph mark on uk motorways. Any less and I'd fall asleep, anymore and I'd risk a ban over the magic 100. A few people at work said the government are considering changing the limit to 80mph...

I think the ban threshold is 95mph now - 25 mph above the speed limit, whatever the road.

I try and cruise on that or just below if pressing on.

Still managed 145 at the weekend on a short stretch!

Naughty naughty.

To Lee77
Is the 996 as easy (and cheap) to decatt as a cerb 4.2 and does it make much difference to performance.
I've thinking about a 996 with GT3 kit and adjustable suspension after having my cerb for 5 years now. If I could make it sound as good and go round corners as well I could live with less straight line go.

Hi Andy

My 996 has a full sports exhaust bhp increase by about 8-10(not de-catted but it can be done) and it does sound great not as much in the way of pops and bangs as the old Cerbera SS but easier to live with every day and still turns heads, Porsche charge about £2.5k for a new system there are cheaper options out there though

Straight line speed the 996 is a bit slower than the Cerbera but not a lot and in real terms the 996 would leave any TVR for dead around the twisty bits (runs for cover) as the power delivery and handling are superb, mine is a C4 that has been lowered and the geometry changed by Parr Motorsport, the grip is just amazing to say the least( even in this weather)

Only downside is the front spoiler will bottom out on car parks ramps etc and the wife steals it to go shopping in without asking.

The 996 is the best car that I have ever owned or driven, I recently looked at the Tuscan S and decided to stay with the 996, my next car will be the 996 TT or a GT2.

Hope this helps

Lee.
