To throw down the gauntlet:

If we redesign the crank for high rpm oiling and reduced friction to get the revs safely up to 9000, with our new cylinder head design and 103mm pistons we think we can get 500bhp normally aspirated (we can't do it for the price of a small block, but we can do it).

With carbon panels/doors, no heater, no cr*p, we can get a 964 down to 1000kg mit full cage.

High revs require short gears, revised G50.03 RS box or possibly a G50/51 993 6 speed will suffice.

Big reds up front on 322 discs.

RS suspension with revised settings, maybe Cup springs & shocks and possibly monoballs.

So, it will only remain to say that the last one round Oulton is a cissy...........

Couple of questions:

How much will all this work cost in total?

How long will the car engine last before a rebuild? 5k miles?

9000 rpm

The man's a genius or totally barking!

Like the idea Colin, but, as you say, fear that a turn key Chevy engine of the same output or more, may cost less than the ninemeister's deft touch

Sounds like you have the 964RS+2 in the pipeline then...

To do the things that others cannot do takes talent but to do the things that the talented cannot do takes genius; you can work this one out for yourselves. I'm saying nothing except that 9000rpm has been done before with a 3.6, but only once as far as I am aware.

The +2 will be an exhaust and intake variation on top of the +1, whereas the full +3 will be new pistons and rods, different cams, ported cases and individual throttle bodies.

We should be dyno testing our own RS+3 this week and are expecting well over 360bhp with an interim set of mildish cams, the second +1 has been ordered and will be underway soon and I propose (with the owners permission) to test at least the exhaust on this one before it leaves the shop.

More later.

Just so long as you don't blow it up!
