Anyone that doesn't rate a GT3 as one of the finest cars money can buy just hasn't tried hard enough. Fact. If you're in any way underwhelmed by a GT3s performance, then you've no doubt set limits as to what you feel the car can do that are FAR lower than the car can actually achieve. They're a little bit compromised on the road, and certainly not as easy to drive as a TT, but in a well sorted GT3 on track (where you should be taking one if you have one) the performance is mind-boggling. Hello TT... goodbye TT.

I don't get what's so hard to understand about this.
As I'm the only one who's refered to the GT3 here I guess that you're aiming this at me! If so can I respectfully suggest that you have either completely misread or completely misunderstood my posts?

No no, not at all. I thought I read into kayc's post above yours that he was inferring again that the GT3 was a bit crap/disappointing. I might have imagined it.
Ah, I see - peace then bro. Oh, and it's easy to imagine anything where kayc's concerned!

Say what you will about the GT3 but it'll always be a tintop.
Yep - that's a prob and sadly IMO the 911Cab is a bit ugly compared with coupe. However there are a couple of people out there popping tweaked 997S lumps into the Boxster who I'm having some interesting chats with at mo. An otherwise standard looking BoxsterS with 400bhp - now that would be fun! Don't need to meantion that small mod when I get the girlfriend her new car now do I?

I was with you all the way till you dissed my cab

That said I still reckon a Boxster with a bit more oomph would be the ultimate road car for me yes If I didn't need the extra seats for the kids I would definitely stick with a Boxster and tweak it a little.

As a Boxster 'S' is £40k and the OP is at his limit at £37.5k-ish, what sort of alternative is that then? Adding the roof to the Boxster adds >100% to the torsional strength of the car. That's why its a better sports car than the Boxster.

SS7

true I was assuming OP could a few quid per month to make up the difference (and the BoxS has a better spec than the 2.7 Cayman so 18"s for example would don't need to be added).

Better sports car in your opinion - I'd prefer the 3.4 Boxster over a 2.7 Cayman (same cost for equal spec) any day of the week thanks

I bought a brand new 2.7 Boxster in May 2006 and have covered 22,000 miles already. No regrets

I have been offered a drive of the 3.4 Boxster S.

The facelift 986 version with 260 bhp was a much nicer car that the original 252 (?) --- so the 3.4 version of the 987 should be a stunner.

As fast as a 993 and with all the practicality and alfresco fun of the Boxster, and the best thing ?

Its £40 smackeroos !!

Of course, not as fast as a TT (there now, KayC).

Made me laugh this post..so busy trying to give me shit you dont even read what Pugsey and i were discussing.Nice to see that the smallest mention that the gt3 isnt the 'only' Porsche worth owning still gets a usual 'the gt3 is so good you just cant drive it thats all comment'.I am in awe of all gt3 driving gods as you know!rolleyes

m getting abit sick of this Kayc bashing. I'm not saying I agree with him, but I think it's a bit strong to call somebody a tt and wanker, just because he's a bit disagreeable. Also ganging up on somebody is a bit childish.

This should post does not mean I want to bum him either

A lot of it is about fragile egos I reckon. Had a suprising frank (alchohol induced) chat with four tt and GT3 owning mates recently. All had worked their way 'up' the car ownership ladder cost wise. All agreed they quite liked the Boxster and in fact quite a few other sub £50k cars but having got used to pulling up outside their fave. country house hotel or pub in £90ks worth of motor they'd now feel uncomfortable going 'back'. Go figure. Not saying that's why anyone on here justifies their purchase so vehemently of course!

As I suspected you were all so so right, I have had the Cayman all day today and covered a good 300 miles and the verdict is I cannot pick a single fault, I just love it and yes it is so easy to drive as an everyday, Just perfect and the order has been placed already - the only problem is I just can't wait for it to arrive !!!!

Thanks for all your replies and advice guys
