996 GT3 at Shirley's

Does anyone know the 996 GT3 mk1 at Shirley's: www.shirleys-garage.co.uk/carsforsale.html
It's been in the showroom for well over a year and hasn't sold. Does it have a dubious history?

Not seen this car, but never understood why it hsn't sold,,,having said that prices have come down in the last 18mths.....as it says in the ad, ex porsche press car,,,,featured on top gear, was evo COTY 1999 I believe.......have to assume it has been used hard to check test figures, but as ever, if correct maintenance procedures have been carried out, I wouldn't expect this to be such a problem.

Just too dear isnt it really.
There are 2003 MK2 cars starting about £50K which look a hell of a lot better and newer which is what most people spending close to £50k would want.
I think these Mk 1 gt3's should be about £40k to £45k max.
Probably £40k max really for a 4 year older car.
They look a bit dated now really

In what way does a MK2 GT3 look so much more modern and a hell of a lot better than a MK1 if you don't mind me asking?
That car was tested by both Evo and Car and was both mags 1999 Car of the Year. It was also driven(or rather thrashed) by Tiff Needell in a 'Fast & Furious' video. Tiff loved it but complained of too much oversteer!
Think that car's been up for sale for getting on for 2 years. I suppose the fact that it was well used by motoring journos must be putting people off.

PS Don't agree that the MK 1 looks dated compared to a Mark 2. Think the MK 1 has always been the better looking car.

Seriously ? when i viewed it well in excess of a year ago (possibly two) the front of the car looked to have been painted (it had overspray on the plastic scuttle trims IIRC)
More worrying was the section of the leading edge of the O/S door that had no paint on whatsoever (and thus was turning a strange shade of brown
I wonder how the paint got removed from the leading edge..........

I saw the car in November I was not looking to purchase the car so did not look over it they closely, and as you know its not the brightest showroom about. However the paint work looked fine to me if anything I was suprised how good it looked as I assumed it had probally seen a fair amount of track in its time. If its been in ther for over a year with the faults you describe then it stands to reason that they have been rectified now. Car dealers will always go out their way to fix a fault pointed out on any car they have in stock.....Wont they?

The headlights. The boxster ones really let the early 911s down imho.

And there aren't many around, so future values should be fairly secure.
997GT3 owners can't drive both cars at once --- but as values fall ex-M3CSL and other drivers come into the frame, and the supply and demand price balance then really slows down depreciation. So when the 997 owners rush to sell their old cars, this should be seen as a buying oppotunity.
Re. the Gt3Mk1 v GT3 MkII argument --- three years and the MkII advantages over the MkI must justify a £10k difference.
Yes there were fewer GT3 MkI's, but they aren't better cars than MkII's !

Err _ actually, I think they are.
You can't state categorically that mk2 is better looking than mk1, in a matter of fact kind of way.
Looks are in the eye of the beholder. And I certainly think mk1 looks better as its lower and has the better looking rear wing. Thats only my opinion, its not a matter of fact that mk1 looks better.
What is debateable is what is the better car. This is for the driver to decide. Whats "better" for one person is not so for the other.
For every person who focuses on the better brakes and slightly better bhp on the mk2, there's a person who will focus on the handbuilt non cupholder bearing, lighter mk1. Some will point to the headlamps and dislike the mk1 ones, some will prefer them as the GT1 had them...

More importantly you can't say it is leagues better and then state because...oh wow... the lights are different....must look like a completely different car from every angle then!!!
Few have the same wheels on so irrelevant and they hardly look any different anyway and the MK2 spoiler looks better than the Mk1.....Hmmmm I think not
