996 GT3 at Shirley's
Discussion
Getting back on track wiht the original question - i saw this car a year ago. THey had a Mk2 in stock at the same time. Looking at them side by side, the mark 2 was in far better condition and has since been sold. Simply put - the shirley's mk1 is too expensive for what it is - regardless of it's history... End of.

Expensive. Compare to my Mk2 GT3 (20,000 miles) I'm about to sell. Just had the big 4yr service ahead of schedule and still has 8 months OPC warranty. Asking £48k. Now that's good value!
Too cheap! Stop dropping your pants on the price, its hurting our residuals!!!
You really think it's too cheap? I always try to price my car competitively so it goes quickly. Anyone seriously interested, feel free to get in touch via email. If you want to pay a little more, that would be great!

i bought a 2003, 53 plate Mk II GT3, 9,000 miles in mint condition for £45,000 (trade) from a BMW dealer last week so the same money for a MkI doesn't make sense.
Not from an OPC therefore no OPC warranty... With that said, still incredibly good price - well done.
AL001 - I know that the 997 has just come out but surely under £50k is still on the low side?! Depends how quick you want to sell I guess.

My point precisely.
Those headlamps make it look old.
You can buy an 03 plate Mk 2 for 50 and apparently the previous post will sell you one for 48K.
Now thats value for money.
4 years newer, much better looking bodykit ,rear spoiler and wheels.
Fresher interior.

And there aren't many around, so future values should be fairly secure.
997GT3 owners can't drive both cars at once --- but as values fall ex-M3CSL and other drivers come into the frame, and the supply and demand price balance then really slows down depreciation. So when the 997 owners rush to sell their old cars, this should be seen as a buying oppotunity.
Re. the Gt3Mk1 v GT3 MkII argument --- three years and the MkII advantages over the MkI must justify a £10k difference.
Yes there were fewer GT3 MkI's, but they aren't better cars than MkII's !

Err _ actually, I think they are.
Thankfully we are each entitled to our opinions !! Actually.
I live not far from Shirley's Garage, some of the stock does seem to hang around a long time, is a lot of his stock sale or return? I can't imagine a garage owner sitting on that much capital for 2 years?? what is the general consensus on Shirley's looks a good enough place, spoke to the owner a while back seems genuine (for a car dealer!). The porsche tech place next door get's good reviews. Seems silly to live so close to a place like that and not drive a porsche!

Gmundcars have an 04/04 MKII with 18K on the clock for £49,995. There is a RHD MK1 advertised on PH for £36k. Prices are still falling fast.
It's getting harder and harder to justify the extra cost of a 997GT3.
If the Gmundt car is a good-un, just think what a Manthay conversion could turn it into.
